The acceleration from the AWD shows the full potential of electric cars, and how well electronics can sync the power down to the tires.

Looking forward to their SUV, with independent electric power to each wheel sounds like will revolutionize offroading as well.

Wishing Tesla great success so that it will trickle down to the whole world.

Yes i think that must have been the case. I saw his update on twitter. "Drove 260 km from Thimphu to Samtse in a Tesla Model S. Very comfortable. And only half the battery used!" Samtse is South from Thimphu.

Some interesting stuff about the P85D.

However, the instant torque of the P85D spun the tires on the Mustang 4WD dyno during first few attempts, causing the car to pull back power. After a couple more tries, we were able to successfully roll into the power low enough to get some big results with the P85D putting down 864 ft-lbs of torque to the wheels during multiple runs.

Take a look at this video of a new Tesla Model S P85D with dual motors, all wheel drive and 691HP take on it’s predecessor, the P85 with a single motor, 415HP and rear wheel drive.

The P85D pulled an astounding 1.29 G off the line absolutely leaving the P85 in the dust while it fought for traction. The trouncing continued while the P85D kept pulling away putting car length after car length between the two until the P85 almost disappeared from view.
