James Bond to drive an electric Aston Rapide E in his next film (No time to die)

According to a media report, the next James Bond movie will have the all-electric Aston Martin Rapide E. Actor Daniel Craig, who plays the role of James Bond, will drive the electric supercar.

The Rapid E is the British carmaker’s first battery electric vehicle (BEV) powered by dual electric motors. The combined powered output is claimed to be over 602 BHP and the maximum torque available is 950 Nm. It is equipped with an 800V, 65 kWh battery and a DC/DC converter for fast charging. The claimed top speed of the rear-wheel drive car is 249 km/h and its 0-97 km/h acceleration time is claimed to be less than 4 seconds. Its range is claimed to be over 322 km. Only 155 of these cars will be made and customer deliveries are scheduled to start in Q4 2019.

The next James Bond movie is scheduled to be released in 2020 and is the 25th film of the character created by Ian Fleming. Shooting for the film is expected to start by April this year. The cast includes Daniel Craig, Lea Seydoux, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harries and Rami Malek.

It is certainly going to be a very quiet one. No more howling engine noises on the sound track.

Since we're on the subject of British cars(Aston Martin) and British spy, here's another British spy who has a more Petrolhead oriented approach.

A hilarious scene where Rowan Atkinson (a well known car enthusiast) mocking the hybrids and choosing a classic Aston Martin.

Note- The Aston Martin used in this film is from his own personal collection.

Assuming that the villain would still be driving around in a lovely V6 powered Jaguar or Land Rover, I would be rooting for him

But Bond would be happy, as his quiet new car might allow him to sneak up on his targets better and follow them very closely without getting noticed.

Great to see Bond keeping up with the times. What will he do to recharge at the end of the 'chase'. The range will be known to all, him and his adversaries. I guess we will see him pushing on with the power in the red.

With the entire automobile world moving towards electric vehicles, I am not much surprised. Sooner or later, fast and furious franchise or such movies will also move to electric vehicles. Such movies has such a large fan following and audiences that for automobile manufacturers, its a perfect platform to showcase their models and technology.

My company provides automation for the automotive industry and I can tell you the amount of R & D going on in electric vehicle technology is unimaginable.

Hahaha! Imagine Bond stopping at a casino and parking in the "fast charging" slot .

EVs will absolutely murder car chase scenes! Can you even imagine an opening scene like this without the engine soundtrack?

IMHO, even if & when EVs dominate the real world, petrol-powered cars should always have a place in movies, motor sports etc. Say, like horses. No one rides them to work anymore, but they do have their own place in areas of entertainment & leisure.

Well, on a lighter vein, Daniel Craig's James Bond has managed to total almost all his Aston Martins since Casino Royale..

Staying true to this track record, I don't think he'd need to stop for a charge before this one goes down too

On the bright side, he might even be able to evade the goons driving conventionally fueled cars.. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Aston stops a few miles away due to the lack of range, and gets totaled anyway

This apparently hasn't happened I guess. The cars used are these as per Aston Martin.

Production returned to Norway in June 2019 to shoot a driving sequence along the Atlantic Ocean Road featuring an Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Aston Martin also confirmed that the DB5, DBS Superleggera and Valhalla models would feature in the film.

Eagerly waiting for this one.

Mods, can the thread title be updated with movie name? Or this post be moved to a new thread as the current thread is in electric car segment.

Re: James Bond to drive an electric Aston Rapide E in his next film (No time to die)

Oh, so many thoughts.

No time to die? I think time to die in 25 miles. Damn, I stepped on the gas, now it's time to die in 15 miles!

Oh, my heart has stopped. Defib's in the car. So, heart or recharge?

Just a being a bitter petrolhead, though. It's Daniel Craig, he can make waffles look cool. An Aston, even if electric, is a piece of cake. I'm sure there's going to be some just above the belt jokes from him written in.
Ps: Rami as the villain is going to be on the list where Heath lives, for sure.

The release date has been postponed by a whopping 7 months due to Coronavirus scare! Although it is more so because China is one of the largest markets and the movie would suffer if released now or released elsewhere except China (piracy would damage the prospects).

Most public performances, releases involving large gatherings have been nixed. Add to that possibly some parts of the film is shot in Italy so it could mean that some finishing shots might still remain, some staff might be potentially affected and to plan a celebrity Big Bang takes a lot of advance planning.
