This car has auto AC with redesigned dashboard I guess.

Auto AC is welcome, but lack of Audio system is not. Central AC vent looks tiny.

Also using the same AMT gear shifter in this EV. The manual mode in the gear shifter is also retained, not sure why this is required.

If it comes with a real world range of 150-200Kms and with unthrottled top speed to conserve battery, should see some numbers among Urban users.

Well, After seeing interior pictures I have my doubts about this vehicle being an EV.
  • Why have a gear lever at all?
  • Fuel gauge seems unconventional to indicate SOC.
  • Why engine oil light is present in an EV?

Seems like you got confused with the side by side picture comparing the EV and the regular model.

Why reinvent something that is quite good already? The car sure needs a D-N-R selector yeah? Nothing works as good as a stick for this. They have reused their existing AMT stick and fascia for it - which I feel is absolutely fine.

On the other side - Nexon EV for example uses that rotary dial for this selection (which in ICE Nexon is for engine map selection) - which is just so not ergonomically right IMO. I'd prefer the stick any day. One doesn't have to look at a stick shift to confirm which direction is getting selected. Training the muscle memory for anything other than a gear stick - is far more time consuming.

As Reinhard mentioned, some manufacturers choose to keep the gear lever as it is in an ICE-EV conversion process. A good example is the VW e-Golf/e-Up which were ICE cars converted to EV, but had the automatic transmission gear lever retained.
As for SoC, implementation depends on the manufacturer. VW reused the fuel gauge to SoC, while Nissan and Tesla use an indicator that's similar to what we see in our mobile phones

Finally, where did you spot the engine oil light? I hope you're not mistaking the picture of the actual Wagon R dial that is contrasted with the said-to-be EV's dial.

Everything looks great so far. I just really hope that at least this version of WagonR, gets proper headrests for all the seats. That is the most missed feature of the current one. Also, can we have some leather wrapping on the steering wheel please?

Hope Toyota and Maruti tests this vehicle a lot prior to its launch, so that we can have a meaningful and impactful EV in India below 10 lakhs. Looking at the present fuel prices, its time to seriously consider some worthy EVs.

I believe future cabins should have a flat floor and more usable space. Wagon R is already roomier and has the best opportunity to get rid of the boxy gear lever area and make it somewhat similar to what Hyundai achieved in ioniq5.

Indeed! I mistook the image and didn't pay enough attention.

They should have given double din slot by default, this will need a panel change or cutting.

I just went through the WagonR petrol official review, and found some interesting bits.

*WagonR platform- the Heartect got a fairly bigger central hump or the transmission tunnel, which might be disappearing in its transformation as an EV. Being a tall boy design repositioning of seats or floor height not gonna have a significant impact.

*WagonR EV spy pics shows us a much bigger fuel lid compared to its ICE variants, which also confirms the EV makeover.

*WagonR will be having 3 fuel options after the launch of this product - Electric, Petrol and CNG.

*Every other Heartect products might be electrified according to the market response, especially next gen Vitara/Brezza,Celerio, Ciaz and Baleno.

Not sure if I am right, but Toyota doesn't have a single all electric model in any market yet. Interesting to see them introduce Suzuki based car in their first year of electrification.

I'm loving how this workhorse is being reinvented time and again to meet demand. Probably the best no-nonsense big boot hatchback we have in India right now.

IIRC even the back seats can be dropped down. My dad had the first gen Wagon R and I remember dropping the seats whenever we had to do an airport run.

It was a never a Toyota, it was all along a Maruti-Suzuki!! Just for the clickbait and some attention Gaadiwaadi had photoshopped a Toyota logo on the front of the spyshot. Unnecessarily Toyota ended up getting bashed/trolled for this electric WagonR when it was all along Maruti-Suzuki who were testing it. The steering wheel also has the Suzuki logo.

Only the initial spyshot had a Toyota logo on the alloys.
