Mercedes-Benz EQE electric sedan with 288 BHP & 660 km range unveiled

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new EQE electric sedan at the 2021 IAA Mobility Show in Munich, Germany; alongside the debut of the EQG concept and the Maybach EQS Concept. The new Mercedes-Benz EQE electric sedan will sit below the brand's flagship EQS offering and is said to go on sale in European and US markets sometime in 2023.

The new Mercedes-Benz EQE, as the name suggests, is equivalent to the E-Class from the brand's ICE-powered lineup. The electric sedan carries forward a number of design elements from its larger EQS sibling. This includes the black panel at the front, in place of the grille, the smooth aerodynamic silhouette, the full-width LED lighting at the rear and the short overhangs at both the front and rear. The new Mercedes-Benz EQE also comes with standard 19-inch alloy wheels, with up to 21-inches offered as optional.

The EQE electric sedan measures 4,946 mm in length, which is 270 mm shorter than the EQS. However, at 3,120 mm the wheelbase is longer than the standard E-Class by 80 mm.

On the inside, the Mercedes-Benz EQE looks very similar to its EQS sibling. The new electric sedan also features Mercedes' 'Hyperscreen infotainment system', which runs along the entire dashboard integrating three screens; the instrument cluster, the central touchscreen unit and an additional display for the front passenger.

Powering the new Mercedes-Benz EQE electric sedan is a 90.6 kWh battery pack sending power to a single electric motor at the rear (RWD). The electric powertrain is capable of producing 288 BHP and 530 Nm. Mercedes-Benz is said to introduce a 4MATIC variant at a later stage.

The EQE electric sedan claims to offer a maximum range of 660 km on a single charge (WLTP cycle). The batteries are also able to charge from 10 - 80 per cent in just 31 minutes, using a DC fast charger.

They seem to have got the front right this time. Much better looking than EQS. But the rear still not great in my opinion.

The overall design of the car (espe ially from the side) looks like a middle aged person on the heavier side trying to look young by fitting into a skinnier outfit a and a modern makeover, but wasn't completely successful at it.

I absolutely love the styling of the fossil fuel Mercedes', but don't think too much of their electric car designs. In their quest to look "different", e-Mercedes are ending up looking weird, and nowhere as good-looking as their petrol counterparts. The side profile might as well be of a Hyundai.

Nice driving range though. I've driven the EQC and can tell you that Mercedes is learning about EVs fast, real fast.

At first glance, I though it was a Hyundai Verna! The resemblance is striking to me.
Why can't Mercedes EVs have an option of getting a regular design over these wacky ones?

Mercedes-AMG EQE unveiled: 677 BHP & 0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the AMG version of its all-electric EQE saloon. The new Mercedes-AMG EQE will be offered in two trims: EQE 43 4MATIC and EQE 53 4MATIC+.

In terms of design, both AMG variants build on the EQE 350 model in the brand's lineup. The EQE 43 and EQE 53 come with a host of AMG-specific upgrades, including a black panel at the front with vertical struts, AMG-specific projector headlamps, light-weight AMG alloy wheels and a large rear spoiler at the rear.

Similarly, the interiors also come with a host of AMG-specific updates, such as the sporty seats with ARTICO man-made leather upholstery with contrast stitching, AMG badges all around and a flat-bottom AMG steering wheel. The sporty electric sedan also comes with a special set of artificial sounds, called "AMG Sound Experience", which changes depending on the drive mode selected. There is also a dedicated sound when using the Race Start mode.

The Mercedes-AMG EQE 43 comes with dual electric motors (one on each axle), producing a combined output of 469 BHP and 855 Nm. The base trim is said to be capable of sprinting from 0 - 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and can reach a top speed of 210 km/h.

The range-topping EQE 53, on the other hand, comes with a similar dual-motor setup but produces 617 BHP and 950 Nm as standard. This can be further increased to 677 BHP and 1000 Nm with the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package. With the performance package, the AMG EQE 53 is capable of sprinting from 0 - 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 240 km/h.

Re: Mercedes-Benz EQE electric sedan with 288 BHP & 660 km range unveiled

I rode in a EQE taxi in Stockholm earlier this month and walked out with some mixed reactions.

I ride in lots of taxi's and many happen to be ICE Merc E Class aka regular E Class. I'm used to a certain choice of materials, styling etc. which are all aimed at being elegant.

With the EQ range, it seems to me that Mercedes is trying hard to impress a new breed of buyers who are somewhere between elegant and quirky and this, to me, is where the brand experience seems to be confusing.

Dashboard is a big visual focal point in any car and the regular E Class has a very good elegant design to it regardless of the trim level.

in the EQE, the lower specs don't come with hyperscreen. Although the non-hyperscreen Screen is great too, the design around the rest of the dashboard is extremely bland and confusing. It's just a vast empty flat plastic panel. The higher trims get some design elements such as stars, pin stripes etc. but they are expensive options.

I didn't like the blandness.

do note:
when I say this, I am comparing E Class ICE vs EQE in their taxi formats. the expensive version of the EQE may feel different.

Comfort - Here is where I saw a very big surprise. typically I find the legroom quite lacking in the regular E Class and the feet go digging under the front seat for space. Not so in the EQE. The under thigh support is nice and so is the height of the seat base. I found the EQE far more comfortable than the regular E.

I now start to see more sense in having a separate brand for EV's like Polestar which establish, from the get-go, a certain style and design language and hence the experiences are not marred.

I don't have the money to buy a Merc but I will be riding in many many more.

What a beauty ! Can't take my eyes off it. Kudos to MB for great design and fantastic powertrains. That particular red shade is captivating. Imagine such a big car doing 0-100 in lower threes with no natural sound.
