TaMo's sales slightly down is because of the pending the facelift for sure, the same is reflected on the ICE variants.

Yes, you can clearly see Tata EV's share reduction is due to their numbers going down and there is no increase from other players. It would be nice to see the breakup of Nexon and Tiago, then we will know Tiago's growth and how much it has been masked by Nexon decline in anticipation of facelift.

Somehow none of the new promising EVs have hit major numbers:
  • MG nice jump from ~500 to ~1100 from Jun, but stuck there. This means the low priced Comet EV is doing just slightly better than the premium ZS EV. Looks like MG has to try with a low price and normal car.
  • Mahindra XUV 400, stuck at ~400 for last four months, I am guessing the dated interiors and possibly the NMC battery could be the reason. If supply limited, it could grow in future.
  • Citroen eC3, gone down from ~300s to 112 in last two months. I hope this is some temporary glitch, if they don't recover this will be a major failure.
  • Lot of volatility in Hyundai numbers and rest are all sub 100 players.
It is not going to be a healthy EV market until other players step up and get ~40% market share, might be 2025 or later for that.

The other factor is their inability to scale to demand, When I last visited Tata plant, their EV assembly section was very limited, they didn't anticipate 1000s of orders and were trying to catch up. Their new plant in Sannadh is dedicated for EV and should be able to scale up.

Re: Electric vehicle sales triple in H1 FY2022

Q3 2023: EV sales declined for the first time by 10%!

The Indian passenger vehicle (PV) market grew by 8.3% in Q3-2023, over Q2-2023, and also happens to be the best-ever quarter for the industry. However, in the same period, the battery EV (BEV) market witnessed a sudden decline of 10.3%. Strikingly, sales declined across all products currently available on the market, with few non-consequential exceptions.
