Exide has confirmed through a regulatory filing that it plans to set up a greenfield multi-gigawatt lithium-ion cell manufacturing plant in the country. It also plans to apply for and participate in the government's Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) battery Storage.

Exide has also partnered with Switzerland-based Leclanche SA. The joint-venture company produces battery packs and modules. The factory, equipped with automated assembly lines, is already operational.

A startup based in Hyderabad has claimed that they have started production of Li-ion battery cells in India. They released the latest product, a 5.2Ah cell, which they claim that having one of the highest energy density (275 Wh/Kg). Is it beginning of local Li-ion cell manufacturing in India or is it another tall claims by a technology start up? More details in the following link.
