They should have also increased the size of the MID, like how its in the BYD seal. If not match, atleast increase to reduce the bezel width.

Price increase when the competition is decreasing their prices? Even when the sales of Atto3 are not enough to even come on many monthly charts.

I feel sad this car is going out of reach for me.

Do people still buy sedans that much compared to a SUV/Crossover. As soon as Model Y was launched Model 3 sales fell.
BYD has the Seal U which is the SUV version, it would sell more then the sedan version.

Just a reminder, BYD Seal is a 5 Star Euro NCAP car.

That's a Camry sized car. I was expecting it to be more in the Corolla/Octavia category in terms of dimensions.

Good to see that they are planning for the dual motor Variant , but one issue seems to be the ground clearance, which is just 120mm

It's 145mm unladen (as given by all manufacturers), 120mm is with maximum load.

Re: BYD Seal and localized Atto 3 India launch delayed to 2024

BYD goes aggressive and targets competitive pricing in all global markets.

BYD Dolphin EV trademarked in India – 4.3m Length, 427 Kms range, 5 Star NCAP.

BYD has recently trademarked Dolphin name in India, hinting at possible launch. Dolphin is a very important product for BYD and falls under BYD’s Ocean lineup. BYD’s new logo debuted with the launch of Dolphin and it signifies the car’s role in penetrating key markets like Australasia (Australia, New Zealand), Europe, Thailand, Malaysia, Brazil, Japan and its home turf, China.
Quote:
BYD has also trademarked Seagull in India and the company is likely to launch Seal sedan as well. All three vehicles (Seagull, Dolphin and Seal) fall under BYD’s Ocean lineup. In India, Dolphin will be positioned below Atto 3 and will be positioned against the likes of MG ZS EV and upcoming Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta EV, Citroen eC3 Aircross and others.
In Malaysia, BYD Dolphin is imported from China and is devoid of any taxes. Prices start from RM 99,990 which translates to Rs. 17.4 lakh in India. With import duties, expect prices to start in the region of Rs 25 lakhs.

Re: BYD Seal and localized Atto 3 India launch delayed to 2024

Since this is imported and above the $40k price(?), do we expect this to have 100% import duty tacked on to it?

That would make this car quite unaffordable and cost north of 70lakhs.

Personally, for some reason I can't put my finger on, I've been a fan of BYD. Yes, it's laughable considering they only have two cars in their portfolio at the moment and one of them has already got the "Green board Innova taxi" image slapped on its forehead (yeah that's what people say about you, e6!)
It's refreshing to see BYD trying to include more products in their lineup, especially considering that the EV market is still relatively fresh if we consider actual well-engineered, reliable, safe, long-lived and ICE comparable ranged cars.
The Atto 3 is a brilliant car but BYD really can do with having a cheaper scaled down version like BMW did (X5 -> X3 -> X1). That IMO will attract a lot more people and build up the brand quickly in this potential market. Of course, this would mean that Tata and MG cannot sit on their high horses anymore. Unfortunately Mahindra (Which I really love) is way too late to the party.
The Seal looks like it has Merc E class proportions. Quite a looker but after that gorgeous EV6 gave a heart attack in the form of 70L+ OTR price, I've lost faith in any of these proper EVs being affordable to the average population. It again seems to be an exotic car race with all the noteworthy models clumped at the top of the buying pyramid. Oh well, it's probably just me swimming around in self pity

Re: BYD Seal and localized Atto 3 India launch delayed to 2024

Got a call from BYD dealer.
Launch is on March 5th and pricing will be around 50-55L.

Booking amount is 50000/-, fully refundable.

The initial batch will be around 40 cars across India.

The sales person was not sure of the variants that will come to India.

For the Seal, you mean? If so, the Ioniq 5 might face a bit of heat. The EV6, arguably more so, I would think. Seems to be an aggressive pricing model. Wonder if it would trickle down to the other models and the ones that would follow later on.

What I understand is that this pricing would be for a ~60Kwh battery, similar to Atto3. Around 50L is what is rumoured everywhere.

The 80Kwh model, with a AWD, should cost around 70L+ IMO.

Again, very well equipped for the price, but I do feel 145mm unladen GC is very low for Indian conditions, especially the mountainous speed breakers in BLR.

Excited about BYD committing to India even after the govt. shunned them. I was wondering if they'd pull out - it is a large market, sure, but not for those who can't be competetive on pricing. It's a large mass market!

Re: BYD Seal and localized Atto 3 India launch delayed to 2024

The BYD Seal is not a super expensive car like the Kia EV6 GT Line.

In UK, the BYD Seal AWD with the 3.8s 0-100 time is £1750 more than the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Long Range 2WD (the one sold in India).

The Seal RWD is £1250 cheaper.

In the EU as well, the Ioniq 5 is sandwiched between the 2 Seals in terms of price with each €3000 away from the Hyundai.

Both these versions have 82 KWh batteries.

Whatever way Hyundai has used to price the Ioniq at 46 lakh. BYD can replicate it and get to a price in the same ballpark but with substantially better performance and larger battery.
