Re: BYD Seal and localized Atto 3 India launch delayed to 2024

BYD Seal launched in Malaysia, from RM 179k, (~ INR 31.5 lakhs) up to 530 PS/670 Nm

BYD cars in Malaysia, has launched the BYD Seal. Fully imported (CBU) from China, this model offers three variants with starting prices from:

RM 179,800 for the Premium RWD (~31.5 lakhs)
RM 199,800 for the Performance AWD (~ 35 lakhs)

Quote:
Starting with the Premium RWD variant, it gets an 82.5 kWh LFP Blade battery, offering an estimated range of 570 km (WLTP) and a 313 PS/360 Nm rear-mounted motor.

The range-topping Performance AWD variant features the same 82.5 kWh battery but with dual motors for all-wheel-drive capability. This configuration delivers an output of 530 PS/670 Nm and a range of up to 520 km (WLTP).

Both variants come equipped with 19-inch wheels 235/45 profile rubbers.

What sets the BYD Seal apart is its utilization of Cell-to-Body (CTB) battery technology, a first for an EV in Malaysia. Unlike the Cell-to-Pack (CTP) construction seen in other BYD models, the Seal's LFP chemistry battery is intricately integrated into the car's structural framework.

This approach is said to enhance the vehicle's rigidity, resulting in a smoother ride, sharper handling, and heightened safety standards. However, it's worth noting that the CTB design limits modular, cell-level replacements, potentially leading to higher battery repair or replacement costs.

Charging capabilities are consistent across all variants, with 7 kW AC charging, while DC charging is rated at 150 kW. Vehicle to Load (V2L) function is supported with up to 2.2 kW
In terms of safety, the BYD Seal is outfitted with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), including Predictive Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Adaptive Cruise Control, among others.

The BYD Seal comes with a 6-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, an 8-year or 160,000 km battery warranty, and an 8-year or 150,000 km drive unit warranty.

Re: BYD Seal and localized Atto 3 India launch delayed to 2024

BYD Seal India specifications revealed, will rival Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The Seal will come as a full import and is expected to be priced at around Rs 50 lakh, ex-showroom.

Seal EV to come in entry-level RWD guise
Has a claimed range of 570km on the WLTP cycle

Quote:
In India, the Seal will be offered with an 82.5kWh battery pack that returns a claimed range of 570km on the WLTP cycle in rear-wheel drive configuration. The permanent magnet synchronous motor mounted on the rear axle can produce 230hp and 360Nm of torque. BYD claims a 0-100kph sprint time of 5.9 seconds in this specification of the Seal that weighs 2055kg.
Quote:
The battery gets BYD’s patented blade technology, similar to other BYD cars, and is capable of charging at speeds of up to 150kW where 10-80 percent charge comes up in 37 minutes. Using a regular 11kW AC charger, it takes 8.6 hours to charge from 0-100 percent. While these specs are of the entry-level RWD variant, sources say the dual-motor, AWD variant with 530hp and 520km of claimed range could also be on offer.

Re: BYD Seal and localized Atto 3 India launch delayed to 2024

BYD is slowly turning into a Tesla that India needed. Tesla anyway will not be coming to India anytime soon if you look at their difficulties in starting operations here. BYD has solid products around the world and not only BYD, China seems to have a good edge in EV's. I wish BYD receives more investments from local players so that they can bring in more products. I am absolutely waiting for the Seal's launch.

Re: BYD Seal and localized Atto 3 India launch delayed to 2024

Just did the math on this one for salaried people.

BYD price on Seal (including their profit margin) ~30L

Government taxes (70% on CBU below $40k) ~21L

Road tax - depends on state, let's take 0% for best case.

On road price ~50L

Now, assuming someone buying this expensive car would be earning somewhere north of 1cr per year, with effective tax rate 34-36% (31.2% + 15% surcharge) depending on deductions. Let's take best case 34%.

So to buy a 30L car, an average salaried person would have to earn 77.3 lakhs, with the government taking away ~47 lakhs minimum.

Re: BYD Seal and localized Atto 3 India launch delayed to 2024

I do hope they offer the higher powered AWD variant as well. The price difference between the RWD and AWD seems very less, based on the launch prices in Malaysia (merely 10%). Offering the 530 HP variant at 55 lakhs in addition to the 230 HP RWD at 50 lakhs, would position BYD very well in the customer's mental map, as a maker of fast, good looking and well priced premium EVs - a player to be seriously reckoned with.

The range penalty for the AWD is also very less (merely 50 km) so this variant makes better sense even with a 15% premium. The only constraint could be, if the AWD starts to breach the USD 40K import cost mark, in which case higher 100% duties kick in ( instead of 70%). This may be the reason we are hearing about only the lower variant being offered.

Just in case if the BYD doesn't launch out the 3.8 Sec version with the dual motor, they'll lose on a lot of customers, including me! I prebooked the Seal, only with keeping the insane figures of 0-100 kmph as 3.8 sec flat.

However, one important thing to consider is that most of the people earning upwards of 1 Cr, prefer to buy these cars on a Lease plan through their employer. Annual Lease rental itself will be around 17-19 Lacs a year. Allowances on leased car will be around 2-3 Lacs (driver, insurance, repairs and maintenance etc). So we are looking at around 22 Lacs reduction from your gross salary and a tax saving of around 7-8 Lacs.

Actually company car lease presently works better for salaried individuals for tax rather than even Home Loan.

That’s true, but you also pay higher interest when leasing compared to taking a car loan. So a bunch of that tax saving gets reduced.

Also, not all companies provide this option. I’m in tech and even the biggest companies like Google don’t provide car lease but Microsoft does.

Re: BYD Seal and localized Atto 3 India launch delayed to 2024

Wow they are coming in all guns blazing, looks absolutely loaded to the brim when it comes to features and looks smashing. 520 KM claimed range on the most powerful spec is bonkers, even if it gives 400 it will be amazing.

Price this right and see it fly off the shelves, should give a boost to BYD Atto sales also as this will definitely lead to more footfalls.
