Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Great machine. A good option for those interested in luxury EVs but want something friendly to the pocket. A few thoughts:

1. Quite a complex machine. Not sure whether Mahindra will be able to provide adequate training across its service centres within a few months to handle such a complex piece of machinery.
2. AC controls integrated into the touchscreen in an EV is something that seems a bit concerning since it may affect functionality in case of problems with the screen or battery issues.
3. Not sure whether that third front passenger screen is necessary. Does it have privacy glass so that driver cannot see it? If not, then this is surely going to be a distraction for the driver. I hope it has limited functionality when the car is on the move. Hope the selfie camera also limits photo-taking functionality when the car is on the move.

Besides the above concerns, overall, it is pleasing to see the product. It surely is a world-class one.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Mahindra have hit the nail on the head with this one!

However the design is the only aspect of the car I can’t seem to digest.

Like a few others have pointed it is way overkill for my liking.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

What a great review ! This car will disrupt multiple segments and is going to be a head ache for other manufacturers. A RWD car that makes 282 horses and does 0-100 in 6.8 secs for under 30 lakhs, that's crazy.

Even though the car looks futuristic with all its cuts and creases, personally I am not a big fan of such busy designs. Such designs do not age well and people usually get bored after the novelty factor wears off. Anyhow, will be closely following the ownership threads as this is a worthy garage contender.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

I hope this car leads to the installation of many more chargers along highways! It’s wiser to wait for Mahindra to address any initial issues in the first year. However, incentives like 0% road tax might disappear once the car becomes mainstream. Tough choice!

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Thanks for the wonderfully written review of mind-blowing machine.

I have already conveyed me feeling about these complex cars that i would stay away from these till 2026 due to loads of electronics and large numbers of failure modes.

On a positive side, The car is truly loaded to the brim. I was thinking what will happen to Big 3 Germans in EV segments. Till now Big 3 have competitive advantage with their engineering prowess in powertrains but with these electrified cars anyone can copy the value propositions and offer most of the value at 50% of the cost. Moreover the other OEMs are coming up with much better designs in EVs than these big 3 Germans.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

As owner of a XUV 700 D, I find the design over the top and not too practical; a few stickers here and there and the car would resemble a ‘hot wheels’ toy car. More so for the 6e. The names are wannabe too

Also the irritating ‘screens replacing the physical buttons’ trend seems to be adopted fully. Full marks to Mahindra to be on a roll, but caveat emptor applies. Wouldn’t touch a tech loaded EV from Mahindra atleast for two years;I purchased my XUV one year after the launch and over the two years since purchase there were still tech niggles / recalls. I would be very happy to be proven wrong though , these are good times to see Indian manufacturers leading the way!

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Great review!

The only positive outcome is Mahindra's have set the pricing for this segment ensuring(hopefully) the upcoming EVs, will fall in line with this pricing.

The XEV and BE's have a good feel of performance figures and feature list but owning such machines would be another thing altogether.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Great review as always. Audacious design and an absolute VFM car with some features, which are not available even on the new 5 series e.g. the AR HUD, which looks amazing. For those who don't have charging limitations at home, its a good buy! They should have given 2 seat colour options though. When did we last hear of a 3 seater 2nd row, thanks to the flat floor!

Actually, with almost the same dimensions and features, the BE is a better buy, if storage is not a big concern.

Wonder why Indian Car manufacturers don't launch a strong hybrid version with such a flamboyant design.

PS: The first picture showing the front would have been a better design for the rear. Visualise it without the ORVMs!

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Fantastic review.

I would like to ask that typically a lot of test cars have certain niggles. Were there any niggles or errors reported at the time of drive?

Also will BE 6E going to be reviewed seperately?

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Fantastic review of an equally fantastic vehicle. Till now I was very apprehensive about EVs, but this will surely be in my consideration set when I am in the market about 3 years from now. That said, I like BE 6E more than the XEV for being more futuristic, and with a usable size in urban conditions. When do we have its review?

How does the warranty bit work? Lets say right now, the new vehicle owner is able to get around 500~KM range on a full charge under mixed conditions. After 4 years of regular charging and discharging cycles, I think the battery won't be as strong as it was on day one (just like our phone, laptop and other electronic devices). Would the owner then still be able to claim a new battery under warranty, lets say because their range dropped to 400 from an earlier 500? This is critical for me, because with 500 km of usable range, range anxiety is no longer an issue. But the potential drop in range due to battery wear and tear could be a major one.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Does it come with ventilated seats? Looks like a solid product albeit with a quirky design that everyone won't appreciate. Still, getting the 79kw variant for 30 lakhs is solid value for money compared to the EV6 or Ioniq. I'd have booked this after waiting for customer reviews for the first 6 months if I were in the market for a new car.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Mahindra sure took their time, but man what a gorgeous looking car! The car looks so premium from any angle you look at it from.

Tough times ahead for the Tata Curvv!

Edit: I came back to my post after reading the review. After seeing the tech it has on offer, I am curious about its pricing. Wont be cheap for sure, but I think it will not be explosively overpriced as well. I am simply blown away. I was not expecting this car to have so much tech.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Wow, they have put so much into this car including auto parking modes
Find the exterior having too many angular surfaces. The fender cladding is awful. Should have been little narrow in width. Who is the mobile provider for connected car features ?

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

I loved the front of 9e and definitely would consider it. The only caveat is it cannot be my primary car as I still have that charging infrastructure doubt in North India particularly the route I travel frequently (Ghaziabad > Rampur, UP).

Mahindra has upped the game so much that Tata Management will be worried now launching Sierra EV. Maruti, IMO, will not be going for this slot with eVitara but if they do, I am pretty sure they will fail as they will not be able to match the oomph of 9e. I feel Creta EV will be a good bet but will look very small against 9e, however they will match the finish.

Lot of interesting reveals yet to happen and as a customer, I feel spoiled for choices. I am loving it

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

This is one menacing looking SUV and the red colour suits the overall demeanour of the car very well. The coupe design, IMO is more palatable then the Curvv, although I feel Basalt looks the best among the trio. The feature list is extensive, Mahindra surely has got another winner in its stable.
