Mahindra’s new electric coupe SUV the BE 6 was launched in late November and nearly 2 months later, the complete variants list and pricing have been announced. Here's a link to our full official review of the car - (Review Link).

Conclusion

Mahindra could have offered the larger battery pack on at least the top two trims. Also, deliveries of the base trim will start in August this year. If you do not mind the wait times, then base-spec Pack One would be the most VFM. It has all the necessary features and is priced fairly.

Variants above the Pack One get the feel-good features and you can pick as per your need. So, if you are not ready to wait, then you can always go for the top-spec trim priced at Rs 8 lakh more than the base trim. You get a feature-loaded cabin, a larger battery and advanced safety; among others.

Do let us know what you think is the most value-for-money variant and also if you had to buy the Mahindra BE 6, which variant would you pick?

First response to this thread - but none of the above. Will buy one when they launch Pack 2 with the 79 kWh battery pack. Until then, I would hope that some of the initial bugs would be ironed out.

Ideally, I would like a 79 kWh Pack One, but since that's not available the only model with the 79 kWh battery will be my pick, i.e. Pack Three

My pick would be Pack 2. It gives almost all features that I personally need and maintains the value proposition of the price increase for the features.

Above that the price jump is steep and the value proposition goes south.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 | Would you buy the base, mid or top variants?

Pack 3 Select as it offers basic ADAS features with almost all bells and whistles. I do not need a 79 kWh battery pack but I do understand that an additional 2.5 lacs will get me that and most people going for Pack 3 Select might upgrade to Pack 3 for this reason. But I feel upgrading to a faster motor and bigger battery would also affect per km running cost considering the motor efficiency and added weight because of the bigger battery. So in my opinion, Pack 3 Select works the best in terms of overall efficiency and 'most' bells and whistles.

Pack 3. Not because of all the fancy features but only this variant comes with the bigger battery and that means a lot in EV due to the increased practicality.

NOTA

My ideal choice will be Pack One (79 kWh) with a 360 Cam as an official accessory. Maximum range, minimum electronics, no glass roof lighting gimmicks, no ADAS, 18-inch wheels, fabric seats, etc.

Hope one day Mahindra will fulfill my wish.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 | Would you buy the base, mid or top variants?

I resonate similar feelings of wanting 79kWh but in lower trims. For now, voted P3 79.

I don’t think pack1 with 79kWh is feasible however I find “pack3 select” as pointless, rather there should’ve been a (hypothetical) pack 2 select with same features as pack 2 but with 79kWh instead of 59kWh. Detune to motor to 230HP even then it’ll be great value.

Such a trim at same 24.5L will be beneficial in many ways

1. Enough features yet no gimmicks which will be behind subscription from 2nd year saving you the upfront cost of those features

2. <25L so meets no road tax category in KA which is one of the largest EV selling states

3. Less risk of car getting bricked due to minor fender bender

I hope Mahindra does a variant rejig because right now, I don’t see the point of the two additional trims they added after the event ie 1A and 3S.

Maybe they will analyse the booking data and understand the appeal of these above benefits of having such a variant on the lineup.

In almost all EV manufacturers, we get a variant like this which is middle trim, with biggest battery and smallest motor. I don’t see any reason to not mimic it here. I’m happy with 230hp too as long as I can get 79kWh for 25L

I feel like paying 27L for P3 79 is kinda overpriced considering most of features in the car will be subscription from second year on. First pay extra for getting the feature, and then for using them.

I’d rather not have them than have them and have to pay to use them.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 | Would you buy the base, mid or top variants?

The BE6 and XEV9E offer fantastic value for money in all trims. The 79 KWH battery gives you the ability to do close to 500 km round trips without charging as against just 375 km with the 59 KWH (assuming efficiency of 6 km / KWH). Add to that, the fantastic power in the 79KWH car, which makes it well worth the while to spend ₹2.5 l more. And as a MH resident, at present, road tax is zero on all EVs. So if I were in the market for a new car, I would pick the Pack Three. To my mind, it makes sense for almost everyone - except perhaps those who live in states like KA where the price difference vs the nearest trim rises to ₹ 5 l instead of ₹2.5 l due to additional road tax kicking in.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 | Would you buy the base, mid or top variants?

NOTA for me also

Higher battery pack always preferable in an EV. The higher battery pack reduces number of pit stops for charging and also lesser charger availability anxiety.

Pack3 are loaded with features like Light Me Up, Video calling, Cap touch switches, Power operated tail gate and Auto parking that are not at all useful for someone like me. There is no 79kWh in lower variants like Pack2 and Pack3 Select and Pack3 is beyond reach.

If there was a Pack2 Above with following features I would buy it:
1. 79kWh battery with same engine tune
2. 360 degree camera
3. Blind view monitor
4. Ventilated front seats

Re: Mahindra BE 6 | Would you buy the base, mid or top variants?

Pack 3, simply for the range it offers. Considering it would be the first EV for most buyers, it would certainly help calm the anxious souls.

Also, the additional features would help keep the car feel younger for longer.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 | Would you buy the base, mid or top variants?

Voted for Pack One. I like my cars to be simple- better reliability. But if you want to splurge, then Pack 3 79 is the only other viable choice. Everything in between is a compromise for the price.

Pack 2 might come close to being acceptable, but Pack One Above and Pack 3 Select are pointless, in my opinion.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 | Would you buy the base, mid or top variants?

Pack 1 base as my vote. For most buyers this should be a second car doing city duties. Paying 5-7 lakhs extra for 125 km extra range seems steep. As a city car for daily commute pack 1 seems to have the most bang for the buck

Re: Mahindra BE 6 | Would you buy the base, mid or top variants?

Reasons for selecting the topmost variant :
1. Today's seemingly unnecessary features become more relevant and sort of common features in a few years.
2. Generally we keep cars for 5 to 7 years. So in a few years we should not feel that we have an outdated car.
So it makes sense to always go for top most variant if it offers additional functional features and not just non-functional enhancements.
