Nice shot though from my very limited portrait experience, I feel like right eye side could have little more light.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Ha ha ha ha. I slept peacefully while everyone I know was out to 'touch' Chandamama.

Now that statement should be the greatest calamity brought upon us by this Supermoon.

LBM tried to buck the trend and I added to it by posting the National Bird..

As clevermax pointed out, it was another media hype about the whole thing and I did not even bother to take out my cam as I have too many 'good for nothing' moon shots over the months. Feeling sad for the crazy groups that went to Nandi hills and stayed there all night for that 'perfect' shot of their lifetime !!! Someone even told me going up the hills and shooting with an 18-55 kit lens would be as equal as using a 400mm on the sea level, hope they were right !

From my light experiments today. (Special thanks to Dr.Prem).

Very nice photograph. I feel however that some playing around with contrast would have resulted in a stunning result. I do know your preference for out of the box shots and no post processing, but still, kehne mein kya hai. I also noticed that the fringe feathers were a bit strange.

You seem to have got a super moon yourself. The only difference being that it was on earth. Super shot. Loved the details especially around the eyes.

P.S. Who is she?

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Apni baat kehne mein kuch nahi jaata... Constitution gives you that right.

The delay in reply was because I was trying to get an explanation from him. At night it was difficult to locate on which branch he was perching. But somehow managed to reach him. He says that he was so inspired by your new hairstyle that he went to Sylvie and got himself one, hence the fringe feathers appear a bit strange...

He also said that he was very disappointed by this new look as all the peahens have boycotted him outright. On the contrary an amorous female Bulbul was showing a lot of interest in him...

Pawan its a style of lighting called 'Rembrandt'. There are many professional styles, I am trying to get guidance from gurus. Reading things online reaches nowhere and I am tired of reading.

Gurusahib, if constitution gives me the freedom to tell 'all moon shots here are crap', will it also give me a protection for my life ?

PS: Why there is no non-stop flow of holi images here ?

Thaipusam Celebrations, Shot @ Little India, Singapore

Thaipusam festival commemorates the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a vel (spear) so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman.

IMO, This is the only shot that stands out from the rest of the moon shots.

I thought someone with good telephoto lens (500mm & 2x tele or something similar) would have captured a moon rise shot with earthly objects in that, to create a moon rise illusion like this.

This is achievable even with 400mm or 500mm if you have the buildings or the terrain at a very good distance from where you are standing. A super zoom P&S would also do the job.

These kind of shots will be few times better to view than just a zoomed in shot of the moon after it has risen up above the sky..

Supermoon March 2011. Latest talk of the town. A couple of my shots including a time lapse photograph taken every 2 minutes tracking the path of the moon across the sky. Going to try it once more with a more interesting background.
All shot with a 300mm f/13 and exposure ranging from 1/200 to 1/320.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Completely agree with clevermax, compostion is the key. You may get some 'wow' from people who dont look at 'Great' photographs so frequently but reality is different.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

@a.sundaram, that last shot of the moon over the city is a killer. Great looking photograph. (BTW, that's thematically similar to Ansel Adam's Moonrise over Hernandez shot )
@Clevermax, very well said about the composition. Without a good composition that moon shot is just another point and shoot shot of the moon taken by thousand of other people. What stands out is that well composed shot.

Finally, you made it to Dr. Prem's workshop. Nice work on the Rembrandt lighting there .

Agree with you Clever. Infact, what you said a couple of pages back about how if you shoot the moon next month on a full moon day, you can't make out the difference, has put things in perspective.

Abhishek,
So you finally found your way here eh? . Haha, this thread is photographers' best kept secret (not so much in recent times, yeah, thanks to me). And yes, I agree with Kaushik, the last photograph is real good.
