@yzfrj: You cant go wrong with either of them. If you intended to take on photography seriously in the future only then is it worthwhile to really dabble on which system to invest in. Each of them are more than capable to satisfy your future needs as and when they arise. Also don't really bother about spot metering and the other technical jargon right now. The metering with either systems is as good as anything out there.

As of now go see what fits better in your hands and is easier to operate. Prices should not really be a deciding factor if they are priced close to each other. If you are still undecided go for the cheaper option.

Does any one use a Leica? Pls. share your experience.

I have been reading reviews and any material on Leica on the net and the old style looks (the M, X system) of the Leica's are becoming too much to resist.

Leicas are expensive. They are rangefinder cameras which use a different focusing method than traditional DSLRs. The latest one (M9) retails for $7000 for body only :Shockked: More about rangefinders here

Yes, I have an antique Leica M3 with a 50/1.4 lens. Still works. Very silent and tack sharp. Probably worth $2,000-$2,500 in the second-hand market. I feel Leica were great cameras in the film-age. The silent functioning made it a great tool of the candid photographer. In the digital age, Leica's USP is perhaps lost.

Canon vs Nikon is really a non issue. There is a slight weakness at the D5000 vs 500D space (the lack of onbody AF pinches) but otherwise, the price difference is 10-15% mostly for most regular items of purchase!

D3000/D5000/D40x would anyday deliver punchier JPGs than a Canon of similar one. In raw, it would be little difference.

Use both and see which one gives you better results. Image lounges may be your next port of call

I am planning to buy a D90 but I am confused about which lens to buy along with that.

The kit lens is 18 - 105 and though I am on a budget still I dont mind spending more for something which is VFM.

1. Should I opt out of the kit lens and buy the 18 - 200 all rounder (too expensive though).

2. Should I opt out of the kit lens and buy an 18 - 55 and a 55 - 200 (economical but hassle of switching between lenses).

3. Should I opt out of the kit lens and buy an 18 - 55 along with a 70 - 300 (great zoom but again expensive and hassle of changing lenses).

4. Should I just buy the kit lens and later on add a 55 - 200 or 70 - 300.

All experts please help me in deciding. Also the body with kit lens is available in grey for Rs. 57 - 58K whereas it is costing Rs. 70K with bill. Whereas the official prices have come down from 85K to 70K, the grey prices have indeed gone up from 54K to 58K. Which is more advisable?

Wander, I am also planning to buy the same cam.

I have decided to go for the kit lens, play around for sometime & learn the tricks.
Then sometime later, will go for the 70-300 VR.

finneyp , where are you planning to get D90 from ? .I might also go for it provided enough vitamin M .
Is the D90 available with 18-55 kit lens ?.I have seen this combination on internet .

Black12rr, not decided from where to buy, Jayesh (Fotocircle) has quoted 58K (grey).
At the Nikon dealer, with B&W it is available at 70K.

Getting the 18-55 lens instead of 18-105 kit lens should be possible, do check with the dealer.

Feature to feature, the D5000 competes with the D90 and is a lot more cheaper.

In Delhi's grey market the D5000 body is for 32K

The main differences b/w D5000 and D90 are

1.High resolution and bigger LCD on D90.
2.In built AF motor on D90 body .
3.Bigger battery on D90 .
4.Top LCD on D90.
5.Better ergonomics on D90 .

GD, I would avoid D5000 for the following reasons:
1. It does not have AF body.
2. Build quality not as good as D90.
3. Recently, there was recall for certain series of D5000 for some power control issue.
