What is the cheapest way to go wide angle ? I have a 1000D with kit lens, i can spend 10K and can stretch a little. I need it for architectural photography.

Looks like Canon 10-22 or Tokina 11-16 are best suited for your needs but they will overshoot the budget. You can check the old school manual focus wide primes - Zuiko, Canon MF, Takumar etc. I dont think autofocus is a necessity for architectural photography.

If you are serious about architectural photography, then be prepared to use a tilt-shift lense and a tripod. The reason is
. Tilt shift lense would ensure that your verticals are vertical and not converging at the top. Your proportions will also remain proper.
. As most of the lenses are slow, and as you get the best depth of field at f11 or beyond, a tripod ensures a blur free sharp image.

As there is no need for Auto Focus especially if you are using a tripod, manual focus lenses would suffice.

Excitedly expecting my new SB700 flash in couple of days. I was very impressed with the reviews and few user opinions. In fact plan was to get the SB900 but will check SB700 for the time being (you guys know how I am crazy about number 7 !!). I have been collecting DSLR stuff like a pregnant rabbit since 2 years and right now its crossing 25 kgs (even after shedding commendable weight last month) :D

I am a beginner with an old Nikon D60. Is there a way to mark the Rule of Thirds grid lines on my eye piece? Is there a DIY for it?

Congrats on a wise choice. This flash has a slight size advantage and none of the reported overheating problems of the SB900 (though I've never faced it with my unit). Plus it's a newer model.

Now, Shaju my dear fellow - umm, with the purchase of this flash and the 70-300 VR2 are you *really* selling off the D700 and changing over to the EVIL system? Or will both co-exist in your bag (as I predict they will) :uncontrol

Cheers!

Actually I don't mind selling off my EVIL system right now. I bought it assuming it will replace my dSLR and I can shed weight. Instead I am finding myself carrying both dSLR and EVIL to all the important shoots.:Frustrati

For regular use, I am using EVIL (very convenient), but for important shoots I take both dSLR and EVIL. I am thinking that replacing EVIL with Powershot S100 will be a better idea since it has the same zoom range (24-120mm) as my primary dSLR lens. Once EVIL comes with better lens choice, I can check it out again.

If I had my way and had to carry only 1 lightweight camera (PNS) the Canon S95 or S100 would be my choice. I've never used EVILs so cannot comment. Looking forward to the NEX7 what with my bro aiming to buy one.

But rave reviews of the Canons compacts had me convinced that my next PnS would be one of them..no more Sonys though they are good when seen on their own.

Regards,

Selling plan took a dramatic turn when 13 out of 16 items were already sold !! Luckily (thanking my stars) I was left with D700, 20mm and 50mm with serious bargains from all over the country. I held it because what I wanted was far from availability. Final product in mind was Sony A77. Now I have to hold it for few months before rethinking the sale if required.

Thats one reason I left the idea of moving to EVIL and staying with my Angel :)

Happy money making sitting on a chair 12 hours a day for 10 years has made me older than what I am ! I was my boss all these years and never had a bad year until 2011. Now I want my hobby (photography) to take lead ahead, which I never thought seriously until October 2011. If it clicks, I will be happy, if it does not, I have my chair to continue sitting :D

Samurai san, you said exactly what anyone would feel or think about me from this thread, very true !!

Cool. Good Luck on your purchase, exchange etc...i mean Forex.

I am planning to buy a new DSLR and have kind of decided on picking up a Nikon D3100 . Saw the price to be around INR 27k in Chennai. Is there any recommended store where I can pick it and I also want to check if there is 0% emi scheme in any of the credit cards?
Thanks

@Shaju .... all is well that ends well. :)
