had fixed on a Vanguard Alto Pro 2 model. It was about Rs17k. Now it is over 30k. What is it with these Amazon prices?

Spotted it back to 17k-ish, "One in stock" and bought it. After which, the same thing was available for an absurdly stupid 64k!
Trying my hand at something new. Started recently, learning as I read and practice.
Foliage, trees and orange sky (pre sunset).
Blue and white. Herons, evening shot.

I don't know anything about your part of India, and how long/difficult the journey would be, but there is nothing to beat going to a shop and coming home with what you want. Add the pleasure of being able to browse, examine, talk about other stuff as well. and a visit to a camera shop has to be a treat!

I agree most emphatically. In fact this pertains to all shopping. Checked a few more places over the weekend and the Body and Lens i want are not available anywhere. Therefore have finalized the Old Delhi joint. Plus as mentioned, better discounts is always a good thing.
Another question to all the experts. Any idea where light painters are available? Yes the ones that look like Light Sabres. Or will have to make my own? There are some sites international sellers but ordering from there will be time taking and cumbersome. Cheers.

Being offered the Nikkor 200-500mm f5.6 at Rs 73,500/- (MRP=Rs 94950/-)
Any news as to why? New lens in the offing?

That is quite a good price. Time to time there are steep discounts for lenses and at one time this lens was available for around 75,000 on-line.
Just be careful to test the lens as initially a lot of then had off centre elements. That resulted in slightly soft images off centre. As long as you can test the lens and exchange it for (probably) better piece it is fine.

That was helpful. Thanks.
And amazon sent me the Vanguard with a ball head. Put in complaint, offered refund. Got in touch with Amazon who said they'd try for the replacement. If not, I'll keep this and get new head one day.
Wow, I see what people mean about sturdy tripods... And such people probably wouldn't call this one sturdy!
It's certainly heavier than any I had before, and reaches my eye level without extending the centre column

No. Normal gear.
These photos are more about imagining something (abstract) and trying to get it in camera. Impressionist photos, rather.
Another one. Herons flying over dark water.
Foliage and orange sky
And something less abstract. But not the usual sharp shot.
Ibises.

nilanjanray, I think that this new work, this line of exploration and expression, from you is beautiful and amazing.

I guess some people might not call it
photography, but I have no hesitation in calling it art, whatever the tools used.Your pictures are beautiful.
That you began with an idea, as a painter might, and realised it, also speaks of skill and accomplishment. Admiring the result; appreciating that it took skill to achieve it... different things. Is something less beautiful because it was a happy accident? I guess not, but happy accidents tend not to be repeatable.

"Photography" literally means writing or drawing with light, so I guess there should be no qualms about calling it photography. Whether someone likes it or not is another matter.
