I use the Pioneer DVD 300S. I been using it for quite some time and I am completely satisfied with it. I have tested all DVD players with the same DVD (which I got) with a particular scene always. The results on Pioneer was above par. Sony lagged behind. The only drawback with Pioneer is that it is longer than most brands you would come across.

I bought model named Black Panther by Moser Baer for Rs 2,250/-, One year instant replacement warranty. Immacllate sound and pic quality, trendy remote!

What about region code?

Also any idea where I can cheap Chinese DVD players in Pune or Bombay.
In the US, you get these for less than 20$. Are these available here at all.

LG DVD 388 was purchased last Sunday from Vijay Sales.. Has HDMI and USB (USB 1.1 plays USB 2.0 devices at 1.1 speed ). Costs only Rs. 3500 with a HDMI cable thrown in free.
Found it to be performing O.K. Looking to hack the region code soon.

DVP-NS608P : DVD Player : Home Video : Sony India

It has Region 5 printed behind it.
I have successfully played discs from Region 3 and 5.

I rent movies from bigflix.
The dealer who sold it to me assured me that it was Region Free.
The picture quality is quite nice and the player looks good.

I am having a lot of trouble with my current DVD player ( Sony D- something) when i play movies from Bigflix.

Some movies play fine and some play with movie and no sound. I am unable to understand if its the CD problem or DVD problem. In any case, i have decided to dump my 4 year old DVD player and go for a new one

Can you let me know where you bought the Sony DVD player? Also, does it have a HDMI out and is most of the bigflix CD's player properly?

And, I note that most CD's from BigFlix do not play in my PS3:Frustrati

I just bought this from Bajaj Electronics Punjagutta over the last weekend.
Have played three DVD's since and they all worked well.

It does not have the HDMI output

You do get them here in electronics stores. I got one for 1.2k with a built in 5.1 amp. Plays anything that is popped in, has a USB port, plays DivX et all.

My bad, for me a DVD is also a CD:uncontrol.

To answer your question, it was a DVD.

What's the name & model of the player?

:) yes All dvd players in india are region code free including sony philips etc etc.

By default the player is not region code free , but it will be done by the store person to make it region free ( Was done for me by Sony , philips authorize showrooms ) so no need to look further.

One advice :-
be keep in mind that you may need to change it in next 1 or max 2years as blue-ray will take over soon. So spend wisely.

Got a DVD player for Rs. 1500 in Bombay.
It doesn't have a name, but when it starts up, it says Samsung.

It has all the right logos, DVD, MP3, MPEG4, Kodak CD Compatible etc on
it. It has a USB slot also, though I haven't used it.
It doesn't look all that sleek or good, but it's played all VCDs & DVDs as
well as my earlier branded player. It came with a 6 month warranty - let's
see how it goes.

I think DVD players are a commodity now - so a non-branded one should be as good as a branded one. 25$ DVD players selling in Walmart have a
very good reputation amongst the techies in the US.

hi mobike,

only the sony DVP-708 has the hdmi out facility, overall its a good player and retails for about 4.8k in the market.

if hdmi isnt a priority then i would suggest sony DVP-608, retails for about 3.4k currently and is a complete vfm player.

would suggest you to stay clear of lg or samsung players as i have seen a lot of issues cropping up with them, recently gave back my 3 month old lg and picked up the sony 708 and a 608 for home usage.

ps: philips dvd players are also very good, have a 5 year old philips dvd player which still plays like a charm!

Saw at Reliance Digital yesterday that a Philips DVD Player with USB/HDMI and free HDMI cable at a price of Rs. 4500 !!
