Re: Review: Sony Xperia Tipo

I like the sideways flipping covers but not the upward flipping ones.
I'll lookout for a hard back cover tomorrow when I go to college. maybe in white or red.

I am currently using this back cover for my tipo. Though it looks basic, but it feels good to hold due to the textured back and also serves the purpose of resisting scratches.

Hi Starange wizard i am too a tipo owner. I have been using this device for last two months and i ehco with your mentioned pros n cons. The sound problem mentioned by you is not a common problem of tipo, you should get it checked asap. Also try to disable live ware manager app ane see if problem still happens.

Re: Review: Sony Xperia Tipo

Thanks StrangeWizard for the review!

I have been using a Tipo Duo for last one month. 2nd SIM is used for 3G data connectivity only.

Just want to add a few observations:
+ Good battery life given that it is dual SIM phone
+ Performance good for the price
+ Reception and voice quality pretty good
+ I use hotspot to connect my iPad (I have a 3G iPad 3, but moved the SIM card to Tipo; it is easier to monitor usage on a regular phone rather than on a iPad). I see that pages load faster on Tipo than on iPad.
- Screen just too small for any sort of typing; typing is error prone and experience frequent "fat fingering"
- Touch screen (and the soft keys at bottom) does not respond now and then

Why don't you try out swype? It causes far less mistakes. You just have to slide your finger over the letters. And activate word suggestions.
If you want a bigger keypad download go keypad. You can increase the size in the settings.

And now my phone's music and gallery app aren't working.
I just get a blank black screen when I try to open any one of them.
It seems if one problem goes then another one finds it's way.

Should I have played safe with a Samsung galaxy ace??

Its some software bug for sure. May be a virus kind of thing(if it happens in android). Would still recommend updatind or reinstalling the software. That is one of the first trial and error methods that I try!!!

Buddy I checked for updates and it says my phone has all the latest updates. I know it's a common bug.
Some googling shows it's a common problem.
I wish Sony came out with a proper fix.

A common problem means there should be a update from sony itself. If the music is not functioning, try a visit to the a.s.s. and they might have some news on the fix!

Which firmware version does your phone have? I have attached mine.
I searched on xda forums and found out that some people have got firmware .22
Mine is 11.0.A.0.16

Re: Review: Sony Xperia Tipo

Sorry buddy! But I don't use this phone. I use a nokia E5. All the information I shared here was just from my experience and some shared with my friends. I do not have any experience of USING an android phone for long, though have used it for a couple of days only.

Re: Review: Sony Xperia Tipo

Hi Strange Wizard, I too faced the same gallery problem mentioned by you, its very simple too fix it. Just restart your phone and wait till the internal memory is being prepaired, don't touch the phone for atleat 2-3 minutes. When the memory gets fully loaded, the gallery will show the contents. Sometimes it takes multiple restart attempts. The above said problem occurs if we open the gallery when internal memory is being prepaired in the background upon restart, the problem gets frequent if internal memory is quite loaded. Also you'll find that when this problem happens, nothing is shown even in pc when viewed via MPT mode. Hope this helps.

Re: Review: Sony Xperia Tipo

Guys, I would like to know more about the music quality from the Tipo. I rate my W705's thump to be perfect, far better than even the iPod or the Sony MP3 player. Those who know Sony Ericsson Walkman phones, please let me know if the Tipo does better than the Sony Ericsson W Series in terms of music quality?

How about the HTC Desire C and the Nokia Lumia 510 on the same aspect?

Re: Review: Sony Xperia Tipo

the music quality is good enough but I find my iPod's quality far better. ( with the same headphones)
I had a walkman series phone long back - SE w200i. I know the thump that you're talking about. I don't find much difference between the two.
the HTC desire c has Beats audio which is nothing but just an equalizer setting and you can download the Beats Audio crack from somewhere. but yeah even that phone has very good music quality.
can't comment on the lumia since I haven't used it.

Re: Review: Sony Xperia Tipo

Finally after reading several tutorials and risking my warranty I rooted my phone using bin4ry's tool, installed clockwork mod recovery, unlocked the bootloader and installed CyanogenMod 10 Jelly Bean 4.1 custom rom from Free Xperia Project (FXP). Mine is the fxp202 version.

These are some useful sites for Xperia owners :
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1890478

2)http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/

3) http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1997251

Now Im really enjoying my phone. There are many customization options in CM10.
I have attached some screenshots. If you guys need any help feel free to ask.

The battery life has reduced though. Earlier I could easily squeeze out 2 days of battery life but now it lasts just 1 day. That's because my phone stays awake ALWAYS. Don't know why that happens. At night earlier my battery used to go down by 2-4% but now it goes down by 15-25% !
