i have a hathway - cable modem - bandwidth of 512 kbps but the actual speed i get on test is around 200 kbps.

my download speeds are about 20kBps. i stay at kandivali (E)

i know a client in the area of matunga who can download a 700MB CD in 1 minute!!!!!

and it's not that expensive - maybe if you are living in that area, and are interested, i can give u guys his email id or something

my cable speed was 1641 kbps
..but that is after splitting the internet by a router to 5 other of my housemates computers ...
so the real speed we get in the house should be 1641 * 6 ?

like the cars ...indian Internet certainly needs a few horses ...am down from that speed to
139kbps on the Airtel DSL...which seems to be faster than the "cable" providers here...

varies like hell......from 15 kBps to arnd 125-30 kBps ( rare...avg is somthing like 50 kBps)..................

and when i bring the auth server down, the whole band is available to me...n movies>>>>2 minutes flat :D

this is pathetic
im getting 7.8kbps with BitTorrent running and around 36.7kbps without it

Promised Speed: 42kbps
ISP Speed: 7.6/36.7kbps
Location: Powai

I wish I could take another connection but Powersurfer has paid my building manager a bit to get exclusive rights to provide *Broadband* internet in my building

I am paying 650 a month for this ****.

Please note that the speeds are in Kilobits per second and not KiloBytes per second. So you can divide by 10 to get to your actual speed of how many KB u can get per second in ideal conditions. (10Kilobits (Kb) = 1KiloByte (KB))

er...small correction here. 10 kbps (Kb) = 1.25 kBps (KB) (1 byte = 8 bits)
So you actually have to divide by 8 to get the right figure.

That max I have ever got was a whopping 462 kbps. Averages around 320-350 kbps if I am the only one connected. Right now, it is shared by 10 other guys surfin' like crazy in the office.

On the internet, bytes (8 bits each) are sent across in a packet (of a fixed number of bytes each, depending on the smallest MTU of the immediate network). The data integrity is checked by doing a CRC on the entire packet. The speed is calculated by the time it takes for the entire data (broken up into packets (with CRC) which in turn are broken up into bytes) to reach the destination.

afaik, this is the way it's done in TCP/IP, ATM, Frame Relay.

Tested speed: 241.2 kbps
ISP: Tata Indicom/VSNL (they are the same)
Connection type: DSL
Rated speed: 512 kbps
Location: Noida Sector 8

The max ever achieved was at home (same connection), 0200 hrs while downloading Batman Begin DVD - 478 kbps!!
But usually get between 215 to 380 kps
I use http://us.mcafee.com/root/speedometer/test_0150.asp to check muh connection.
