What are you trying to activate in the first place? and that too by calling the rural extension number rl: |
Here is the Customer Care link from
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.- India's No. 1 Telecommunications Company homepage.
BSNL Customer Care
I have created an account there and added my phone number. However after that step, there is a manual verification step and I had to call 1500 for that.
They said, we don't have that information, so please call 1504 for broadband helpline.
Are you saying 1504 is the rural helpline number? I don't think so.

No need to blame or Insult entire state for your own reasons.
you should be thankful to U.P. as you got a loving mom from here.
lets keep this topic to BSNL issue and not divert it towards political heat.
I too am facing problems with internet at home. I have BSNL internet at home and the problem is that the internet runs for a few minutes and then it stops and then again starts after refreshing the page or after "repairing" the connection.
This happens both, when I connect with my laptop or if I connect with phone
Initially the problem was that the PC connecting intermittently with the wi-fi router, so we had the router changed. Now the pc/phone remains connected with the router but the internet is a problem. Keeps coming and going.
We have asked BSNL technicians many times to come, but for them all is ok. But sadly it is not.
Is it still the router or the telephone line?
Anything that can be done to solve the issue from my side??
Regards

Mostly it will be the router, try wired connection and see if connection is stable.
We had 6 replacement and finally BSNL guys confessed the hardware they provide is useless and asked me to procure one from outside. I got a belkin wifi router few months back and since then its been stable <touch wood>.
Around Sarjapura Road, we've beening seeing a day's loss of connectivity (both phone/broadband) once every 10-15 days. Have tried to escalate it - but to no avail. I do hear that Airtel's gotten worse too since we left, but thats hardly any consolation. Making do with a Netconnect+ as a backup - but thats negated any cost advantage the BSNL connection brought.

Try using custom DNS server rather than using default (BSNL) Cause they always fail or slow to retrieve ip addresses. Their service is still the same standards all the time :Frustrati

Thanks comet!!
Apparently the problem was with the Router. I am using my own router now and since then there has been no problems

Funny incident: The BSNL line at home was an official connection, now we wanted to covert to personal one and put the request. No change in plans etc. The process is actually quite funny, the account is disconnected, then put on transfer (in effective couple of days without phone also), then reconnected. So after 3-4 days of down time we have the phone ringing but no internet.
I tried registering a complaint online, but when i try to book it says, this line does not have dataone connection and cannot take the request. Got fed up and made a regular phone line complain and promptly the call comes. Explained and the person said no change in username etc. But again no luck with internet.
I had left the modem ON after playing around to connect, and mysteriously it connects at midnight! Though now the line is only at 2Mbps instead of the 4 Mbps. I had to switch off the modem in the morning and it went kaput again. Fed up with this, went to BSNL office. Person checked and said the broadband is not activated. I explained to him the phenomenon and he said he will call back. Call never came.
So i leave the modem ON and mysteriously it connects back at midnight again, runs for the whole day and the second day at midnight disconnects.
Am sure its a BSNL goof-up and will be going back to the office today. Hope they can sort it out. Or else start modem at 1155 pm and switch off again at 1155 pm next day for the magic to happen. Hopefully i will get free internet also :D
Update: The broad band is not activated along with ISD since personal verification is pending. Will take another 2 days and then they will issue new password. Meanwhile i need to see if the auto connection happens at midnight for free internet. :D
Really cant figure out how these things work in BSNL !!
After a lots of up and downs to exchange they figured that the main exchange is yet to create username (usually happens within 24-48 hoours) and hence the downtime. Did a bit of escalations and pull to get this sorted. Finally got connection after about 14 days but at 2 Mbps, today went and reported the issue and they assured to set the connection to 4 Mbps soon.
Now coming to the mystery of free download, i think BSNL has some free sampling period. Guessing since i finally got a redirect saying either bill is not paid or your free trial period is over.
So thats the story so far. As long as the line works nothing will come close, moment it goes down... trust me you wouldnt want to go any close :p

BB 900 Combo 4 Mbps with 8 GB and 512 Kbps after that @900 Rs/month. Anyways the setting seems to have been changed by evening yesterday and i was getting 4 Mbps speed rather 3.6 ish. :)
My BSNL supplied modem's on/off switch stopped working and the modem is not staying on. Registered a complaint and got a call - essentially asking me to use a rubber-band to keep the button in "ON" position. Replied that I tried all that but still the modem does not work. Reply was to go buy my own modem and use since they do not have any in stock!!
^^^Same issue in Poona. They haven't had stock for ages. Really bad, because it was cheapest to get one from them. As of now BSNL is neither cheaper on the hardware front nor the tariff front. Nobody there knew if or when they would get stocks again.
If its just a switch issue, I'd suggest you take it to an electronics repair guy. Even though he may not have another switch which fits there, you may be able to do away with the switch by just soldering the wires together. Or you could get an iron and do it yourself.
I am facing the same on/off switch problem. I never used it from the beginning but last two days i had to reboot the modem due to frequent disconnection and what not. I feel it's going to come off very soon. Mine is a teracom modem.
