There are talks ongoing to restrict duty free import of TV's to the value of Rs. 10000 and tax anything above that, since Samsung India, LG India, etc. are losing local sales since Indian taxes make them less competitive compared to global rates.

Interesting! They have a rule which an allowance of 25k (or 35-45k), and then there is a separate valuation based on the items. I mean, it's easy to bring in an iPhone worth Rs. 30-40000 compared to a TV which cost probably half the price.


Do post here if you get to know more on this. Rs. 10000 is good enough as a regular 32" LED costs much less than that here in Singapore, and I can think of buying one for my MIL when I visit home next. Thanks :)

I have been using BenQ LCD (LED backlit) monitor. Recently whenever I view or edit photos on it, the photos don't look good. Color tones, sharpness seem weird. The same photo when viewed on office normal LCD monitor or a laptop screen look better.

Now I am confused whether this is related to setting of my monitor, or is it do with the display port (have a normal port on cpu) or the monitor itself is bad? please:

Make sure you have installed the graphics drivers and your monitor is running at native resolution.

Recently bought a Panasonic 50XT50D 3D Plasma TV. This TV requires either a LAN cable connection or a WiFi Dongle to be able to connect to the internet and use the apps installed in the TV. The WiFi dongle from Panasonic comes expensive at around 5K. The wired connection to this is to come from the router which is in another room around 50 feet away. To minimize the clutter of the wires I have come across a wireless extender from 'Netgear' with 4 LAN ports from where I can take a wired connection and connect the TV. This is available in FlipKart/Snapdeal and is priced at less that half of what the Panny WiFi Dongle would cost me.

Anybody out here has been using a similar setup or using this particular model and can share some good or bad things about it.

The router would have to be an 802.11n type to be able to stream HD content.

However, you'd be best off with a CAT5 cable connection.
Wireless can be iffy.

The panny dongle works the best but the wifi range extender /repeaters work too. There is loads of stuff on the HIFI vision forum on exactly this topic, you will find a whole lot of panel specific options there.

The present wireless router I have is a Belkin N-150. I plan to setup a wireless range extender in the other room to avoid the wire clutter and take a wired connection from this unit. If not for the complexity of the room where this TV is placed, I too would have gone for the CAT5 cable setup both in terms of reliability and the cost involved.

Thanks khoj. I did look up at the other forum, but probably my search wasnt that intensive. I will go back and do another study there. I am a bit apprehensive on the Netgear Wireless range extender here as I havent heard many good things about it.

Whatever it is I am planning to finalise it this week and get the TV hooked on to the internet.

On another note was wondering if it is worthwile connecting it to the internet. Does it work good here?

I am using it for the past few months and it works perfectly. You will have to make sure that wherever you place the repeater , it gets atleast 30% signal strength from the primary router.

When I saw the 51 incher in Europe, I was not happy with the motion handling. There was distinct judder.

The day I came across this product, I had almost ordered it but then the reviews in amazon/snapdeal/flipkart scared me and I was holding it. But not anymore.

Snapdeal here I come.

Just bought 64 inch Samsung smart tv, Plasma 8 series E8000. Got a good deal (hopefully) at 1.8L. LEDS were never on my radar for excessive brightness and motion blur. Got tired of waiting for Panasonic plasma range. Nothing above 50" Panasonic here in my town. Even Samsung's own new F series plasma was taking forever to come to my town. So settled for E series.

Anyway, picture quality is awesome. I went from 29" CRT to 64" plasma. So, it is as though theatre screen has descended in my living room. My son is enjoying the "hand wave remote". I am just loving it. Wife was scary of that size but soon we got used to it. Now movie watching at home is taken to a new level. HD quality is just mind-blowing. Even skin pores and individual stubble strands are absolutely sharp.

Now, I am on lookout for good 5.1 Home Theatre with 3D blu ray player. But the Sony/Samsung/LG/Panasonic/Philips combo systems are not good at all. I mean the audio part. They all sound like loudspeakers. I may have to pick up a BD player from one of the above brands but for 5.1 audio part (speakers), I need to try speaker specialist brands. Any suggestions? I have allocated 60K budget for it. Will it suffice for a decent acceptable-level system?
