How is LG 42LB6700? Any one using the product? Will it be sufficient for a viewing distance of 9-10 Feet?

IMO 42 inches is bit smaller size for 9-10ft. You may give a try to 48 or 50 inches.

I want to go for a "dumb" :) 42 inch LED TV and wondering which one would be a good buy.

I'm inclined to go for an LG as the 4+ year old 32 inch LCD LG "Jazz" model has been simply outstanding (touchwood) with great sound (came with 10 built-in speakers including woofers at the back)!

I can vouch for Samsung. 6+ years with a 42inch Samsung plasma and 3 years with a LED and not a single issue till date. Torchwood. Also PQ is quite remarkable.

Do compare both LG and Samsung before buying.

Looking for a second TV at home. Something really big or a practical option for the time being so can opt for the bigger option when i move to my new home very soon.
Need is a screen for watching basic TV and aimless browsing plus youtube.
So in a dilemma of getting a 32inch monitor for the time being which I can later use for computing.
Or should I buy a projector, not very expensive whats the pros and cons.

Hi Guys, I just receievd the new Toshiba 47 L 5400 androidTV yesterday via infibeam for Rs 53k. Tatasky HD not yet connected but HD movies through 500GB USB drive are playing nicely. Will be updating on playback quality from PS3 BlueRay and TataSkyHD soon.

That looks like a really good deal. Btw, is Toshiba fine with buying tv online. For how many years the warranty is provided.

Hi All,

I recently purchased LG 42LF6500 TV (LED, 3D, Smart TV) for Rs. 60,000 during the I-Day sales. The price is including the additional 3 yrs Warranty (so in total 4 years warranty) and 3 extra 3D glasses. (http://www.lg.com/in/tvs/lg-42LF6500)

This is the latest series in 3D smart TV in LG and is not available on any online retailers. The features are really good including the OS and the magic remote. And yes 3D works well enough! clap:

I think buying additional warranty is becoming a necessity since in my last 4 yrs of owning an LCD tv I have seen twice the motherboard failing (once replaced under warranty) and some additional repairs worth 5000-6000. In all I had spent approx 22-23k in 5 yrs of ownership. Similar expenses had also occurred a couple of my relatives home.

Regards,
Rahul

Looks like I'm coming the full circle after ten years of going from big to bigger TVs.

My first tv was a Samsung picked up 10 years back, and was a 26 incher. Over the years, you name the brand we have had it.

Currently we have a 46 incher, but rarely use it. My immediate family in India just picked up a diminutive 23 inch Samsung and we were completely bowled over with the image reproduction, even in non HD mode. Would suit us just fine I feel.

We will move back to a small LED shortly as other hobbies (Plain music being one of them) have gained prominence over watching TV. Just have it in the background, if at all we need to use it. Moreover time seems to be at a premium these days, even over the weekends. Good for us!

Does anyone else feel the same way?

I've always doubted the actual utility of Huge and expensive TV's to those who can actually afford them. There are far better ways to spend your time other than watching TV . And those with resources to pursue other interests definitely would prefer those interests to the TV. Specially seeing the content quality these days. Recently started watching Chanakya series on you tube. I'm amazed at the quality of writing, character development, production quality and the number of horses used. :)

And its almost 25 years old.

And I mostly watch it on my phone during 10-15 min breaks on my phone. I seem to prefer youtube on a large handheld device than the TV these days.

I have a Lg for 3 years now and no issues. It's a smart model. However I've used the smart capability maybe thrice till date as I have a media player and a receiver that can play the smart content that I need. A friend has a samsung and he uses its smart capabilities extensively. There's little difference between the two brands and it goes by ones choice. I would vote for the LG non smart model.

At a request, I plan on buying my in-laws a Samsung UA48J6300AK this weekend. I have been asked to purchase a 'Curved' TV and within the budget frame, this is the only option.

Any points of note before I make the purchase?

Also, what should be my target price? I will be buying in Borivali, Mumbai.

I think your second choice of LG 49LF6300 is a bit old version. When i was recently buying I did ask about this model in 42 inch version and it was coming out expensive than LG 42LF6500 (former being 65k and latter one 60k) which also has 3D and the latest OS. Also the LF6500 versions are available only in stores and not on eCommerce websites. So best to check it out from nearest showrooms.

i think the lg 49lf6300 is a 2015 model and it even has webos 2.0
