Just 2 weeks back we got Usha Wonder Stitch. Price quoted was Rs 8,100. We got Rs 1,200 for our old non-working machine. This is for pure home-use.

Found the answer.

The products have been priced at a higher level to target the ‘mass premium' segment. The washing machine range starts from Rs 29,990, the dishwashers Rs 28,990 while the refrigerators begin from Rs 34,990.

DW is priced between 30k and 80k.
2 weeks ago we bought the entry level model for 28.5k from Modern world, Domlur. Wife is loving it.

They have a slim model. I was actually interested in it, but it was priced around 36k.

Washing machines I remember were priced around 22-25k.

Will write the detailed review sometime later....

Regards,

Not, then, because they are worth it, or anything like that? :Frustrati

Few queries after going through the manuals,
- How do you know the time left for the cycle to finish as there is no display in the base model
- How did you check the hardness of your water supply, I believe there is a water softner setting based on the hardness of your water supply.

There is no way to check the time remaining. We just fill it shut it and forget it :)

It takes 2.5 hrs to complete the normal cycle.

For the water softener, I have set it to max hardness setting. We have borewell water and I am sure it is of the worst possible quality.

Few more queries :

- Does it resume from a power outage from the same point in the cycle.
- Which brand of consumables do you use.
- Did you consider LG which is at the same price point but the features look better(External display, options etc), what bent your decision towards Bosch ?

Yes it does. It has a memory backup of 5 hrs as per the technician. However, we have not got an opportunity to see it restart it after a break of more than 2-3 hrs.

LG now has only direct drive model. It was available for 36k. Feature wise LG was really superior, but then those features were mostly cosmetic. For me the price difference did not justify additional features.

And oh, in case you are wondering if direct drive DW will be more silent than regular one, during initial days when sitting in the living room next to the kitchen, we used to wonder if dw is working or not and had to go to the kitchen to check it. So, noise produced is absolutely minimal.

Regards,

My Samsung Washing Machine is not spin drying . Should I go for Authorised service or get a local one? Its 10+ years old Korean made.

I think Auth service is too costly @250/- per visit. Any suggestions? I live around Banaswadi area.

Thanks

Check whether the spin stop button (if there) is depressed. Happened once with us, and we were at wits end, till the technician pointed it out. Otherwise if normal wash cycles is OK, then the motor is fine, and may be some relay is just stuck.

Actually it starts spinning then with an unsteady base and excessive jolts it switches off the spin dryer due to an inbuilt mechanism I guess. This is an old problem - earlier I used to stand on the edge of the wheel base/stand and lean on it with all my weight to make it run to completion - but I had to do it very occasionally like once or twice a year. Only now I am not able to steady the jolts.

Let me try looking for a stuck coin at least in the pipe.

The machine exhibits all the symptoms of imbalance.
. See if you can level the machine
. In my IFB there is a stone weight on the top of the stationary drum, which if broken or shifted exhibited the same symptoms. Check if that is the case in your machine.
. At times in our machine, the imbalance is created due to water remaining in the drum (water pump clogged or vapour locked), check and clean the filter if it is there
. If all else fails, then you may have a broken, spring or restraining arm, on the fixed drum. Open the machine and see if the drum is wobbling extensively, when pushed by hand. Replacement drum if the restraint is broken is expensive, if available. But you can get the arm welded. If it is stainless steel drum and arm, specialist welders are required, but available.

This must be done with a spirit level. Eye will not do.

Fine adjustments, to "tune" out any remaining vibration, can be done by feel. With the machine spinning, you can sense that there is vibration across one diagonal. Using the spanner on the appropriate corner, with a light touch only, you can then feel the vibration decrease as you tighten (lengthen) the screw. Then make sure that all four locknuts are tight so that the machine does not undo your careful work.

I'm not an engineeer: this is just my experience.

Having a good surface is a good start. Our original washing machine "stand" was just concrete, and it had worn. We had a piece of stone set there, and put the mason to interminable trouble to make sure that it was set to give as perfect a level as could be achieved. Since putting the machine back and making the adjustments, it now shows no inclination to shake or go for a walk.

Question about Tubelights.

What's the best type of tubelight to put in the house? (No CFLs).

I want a 40W one & not a 36W one. I guess that rules out the slim ones.

I have heard that electronic chokes though more efficient break down more often than the non-electronic ones (2-3 years as compared to 6-7 years).

So what's the best type to considering different types of chokes & starters?
