I have LiteOn 1635S (16x) which I bought for $70 in 2004. After 3 years its doing fine. Now you will get faster burners at lesser price. Incidentally, Sony burners are essentially LiteOn burners.

I had a sony i bought in 2003 begining i dont care abt speed as long as it is capable of burning at 2x(dvd) and 4x(cd)( i know slow rite i will give an explanation of that) I am fine with it

I used to burn at the fastest possible speed but i realized at that speed a small light scratch would cause the cd/ dvd to skip and for movies it would cause them to pixelate at the 1x / 2x speeds the movies dont pixelate and the scratchesdont matter that much ...

Though I had 16x burner, at that time the media available was only 4x.
BTW, I would suggest you go for USB burners. Though slightly expensive, the convenience of connected to any PC/Laptop & burning is unmatched.

has prices of hdd increased LBM ? last time i checked 320GB was for like Rs. 4200 - 4400. Coz prices recently dropped on 22 April.

Even i want to buy a new HDD my samsung HDD is on the edge of dying and its not even 3 years and its spin rate is 99 max (should be 99) and worst is 1 (should be 99)..

Samsung products are loosing their quality. And i have not even used that hdd much no game is installed on that hdd and comp is used for just surfing and chatting.

I AGREE with that. I have ripped MP3s at 8X that are still singing out loud after >2 yrs. Same applied to VCDs.
