Thanked: Once

Thanks for the inputs, just got this 2-weeks back, still in exploration mode, yesterday night I hacked the display driver inf file to support the native 1680x1050 60Hz. Its totally different experience compared to previous 1280x1024.
My primary usage is browsing & dvd, bought this large one for my wife’s multimedia tools. I am considering NVIDIA 6600, may be next month, I still don’t have any ‘Try & Buy’ friends in SP road.
I was considering the new low cost 19” Dell when I came across E228WFP. The biggest problem with Dell is that you can not check this out in a store, really liked the tech specs, haven’t explored much in this range.

Although I'm not well versed with the specs and comparable features, I can tell u that it seems to be good.

A relevant input from me would be it's current cost.
I paid Rs. 9250/- and got a proper bill and 3 yr warranty.
Without which it would probably be another 500 cheaper.
He also had a top of the line 20" viewsonic that would cost 15-16k.

For the LCD you can go for

19"
Viewsonic VX1945WM 13K
LG 1970HR 16k

20"
Samsung 206 BW 20-20.5k
Viewsonic VX2035wm
LG L204W 18.5K

there are better LCD out there, dont know the exact model.most of the above ones are TN pannel,Viewsonic VP series are m-vpa but i think they are not Widescreen,as for sound card if you save on LCD go for the Creative X-Fi Music or Audigy 4.should be around 6-7k.

Time to revive this thread since I am again looking for a decent LCD monitor. However this time around I'm in the UK and the choices have increased manifold .

However I have been able to narrow down my choices to
Acer - United Kingdom - Products
and the
Samsung For Business | Products | Desktop Displays | NEW SM932GW, SM2032BW, SM2232BW Widescreen Monitors

The lowest quote I can get for the former is 120 pounds and that for the later would set me back by 127 pounds.

Now I'm not able to decide whether I should compromise on screen area to get better pixel density and response time or spend an extra 7 pounds and get those extra two inches of real estate.

Any attempts to clear the confusion are welcome !

PS: did you get a soundcard ?

buy big screen if you plan to use it for games and DVD , DivX etc movies

buy the one with the bigger pixel density if you plan to use it for desktop use / HD movies

EDIT: i dont understand. both the 22" have the same resolution, and the latter is the one with a 19 inch option

Further edit, you deprived yourself of the wonderful Xonar DX too :P

Yes I did get a paltry Creative Audigy Value since I couldn't get the Creative Audigy 2 ZS anywhere in the market. Moreover I deprieved myself of the M-Audio card because of my ignorance about it's virtues.

Oh the Samsung page is all mixed up, the latter in the last post post was the Samsung 20 incher,i.e, the Samsung SM203BW and the former was the 22 incer from Acer.

Use would be photoshop+ internet+games+HD video+ DVD but it would be more skewed towards HD content so should I get the 20 incher than ?

That's what I thought as well as but then the samsung's combination of a better response time and pixel density is tempting ! Espeially when you consider the fact that the the last time around I choose one with the lower pixel density, i.e, I picked the 19 incher over the 17 incher.

sit farther away from the monitor then

as regards the response time , the 2 ms figure is a G2G(gray to gray) figure, while the 5ms seems to be standard black to white or whatever. so the 2 ms monitor is not necessarily faster

Sorry for confusing you more, but isn't Dell the current thing to get in the Indian market for LCDs? They seem to be having a superb service support chain from what I heard. Greenie would be able to comment more accurately though.

Kalpesh, read all the posts man

between the LG and the acer, i dont know which to choose. I have a vendetta with LG after a borked mobile phone issue. Acer quality is also pretty much the same .Samsung has some good panels.
In india, viewsonic gives the best deals, especially their X series which have good response times( both my monitors are viewsonic - a 17" flat CRT(superb) and a 19" WS LCD(not that great- cant manage to get a correct shade of white no matter what) .
Dell - I prefer buying stuff from brick and mortar stores( call me old fashioned) , so as long as that alternative exists, i would rather choose that

revedup, what are you shopping for ? the best price or the best product ?

Even though I have a budget of 150 pounds, I would love to get the best monitor for my money.
