mp3tag is a nice tool. you get it free. Lots of options.

Look at what Apple did when everyone was pricing songs high, they started selling songs for $0.99. You don't have to buy the whole album. Just buy the songs you want. iPOD's success is not only its design but this clever pricing strategy. They proved that songs when are sold at reasonable prices people will prefer them over pirated ones.

Now I wish someone could sell songs in india for Rs.2/-

(Sorry for being OT)

One doesn't want a straightforward conversion. Obviously then nobody would buy it. The point I'm trying to make is that if its easily affordable then people would take to it.

I miss the glory days of Napster. :-)

Do you have winamp media player,if so

from the menu choose
file->view file info[shortcut alt+3],from here just uncheck the ID3 tag/edit and then update as simple as that.

Edit did not see the multiple file thing, you could not do the same for multiple files, sorry.

I wonder why nobody has mentioned Windows media player itself. View the list in the library, Right click on the song(s) and select "find album info" and select the . It's fairly simple.

Off-topic: IMO exorbitant pricing is one of the major reasons for software piracy. I am very much against software piracy and always use licensed software. But in case of Adobe Photoshop I used the pirated version, because it's so exorbitantly priced.

Pricing it 600 USD in US is OK; but charging the equivalent amount in India is too much.

Anyways now I use GIMP on Kubuntu; it doen't offer as much as Photoshop, but it gives me peace of mind.

Cheers

one option is to go to folder options. Select Mp3 file format. there you would find the program associated with it. Select change icon and try it..

I would love to do that. but the album name doesn't appear in the properties. how do you do that LBM?

I have a garmin 755 now and the stupid thing can only play by artist, album, genre etc. no folder view. So I am planning to add folder name as the album name in each file. total of 87 folders, should be manageable.

EDIT: Used MP3TAG and it worked. thanks all.

ID3 Tagging of MP3 Files.

Folks, I need some suggestions to Tag my MP3 files.

I have made a collection of songs ( mp3 ) & I like them to be tagged & named correctly. i.e. “Artist-Title.mp3” and the basic ID3 tags.
Unfortunatelly Many of the songs I have don’t have the ID3 information, & some of them are not named correctly.
Any recommendations on a software which can look up the song ( or some partial information ) and put the id3 tags ?

I have Explored the following software:
Tag&Rename > I use this to rename files based on the tags & vice-versa.
MP3 Tag Studio > Has some limited Tagging features.
Shazam > this would have been the ideal product for me. But unfortunately it requires you to play one song at a time and then manually type the details in it.

So in Short, I need some method or software which can write the ID3 tags ( name , artist, album ) of all the songs in my collection. ( additional tags like genre & artwork would be a big plus )
I don’t mind buying a software provided it is not too expensive.

TIA

Re: ID3 Tagging of MP3 Files.

Aimp2 Mp3 Playe has this option IIRC , This is mentioned on the site

"Tag Editor
You can easily edit tags of audio files, rename group of files, sort out by required template or apply tags' values to a group of files."

Cheers

Re: ID3 Tagging of MP3 Files.

I use Mp3tag - the universal Tag Editor (ID3v2, MP4, OGG, FLAC, ...) for mass tag update. Not sure what you mean by looking up.

Re: ID3 Tagging of MP3 Files.

Media Monkey would be a good choice.

I must warn you though that the album arts embedded by tagging (by any software) are generally of poor resolution. Its better to embed album arts manually.

I use T&R for tagging multiple files including albums by artists and compilations. Works great for me. Other than T&R and Media Monkey, options that I have used off and on are:

a) iTunes
b) Winamp
c) J River Media Center

Cheers!
