Let me confess first - i have not gone through entire thread.
This is question from a Camera illiterate person. I have Sony DSC w35 (may be) camera and want to upgrade to DSLR and learn some basic photography. My budget is 30k and i think Nikon d60 /40 and cannon EOS 1000D Kit (EFS 18-55) are only the option. Need suggestion from gurus which one to buy among them or any other alternatives. I will go ahead and buy based on the suggestions.please:

All three are excellent cameras. You cannot go wrong with any of them. I suggest you test shoot them. See which feels comfortable in your hands. And which one you feel nice shooting with. Because it is you who has to use them in long run. Just check which one gives you the right 'feel' and buy it.

I was quoted these prices i the market
Cannon 1000d with 18-55 non IS kit with warranty 27k
Cannon 1000d with 18-55 non IS kit without warranty 24k
Cannon 1000d with 18-55 IS kit without warranty 24.5k
Cannon 1000d body only without warranty 20k
Nikon d60 with 18-55 lens without warranty 28k
Nikon d40 (not dx) with 18-55 lens without warranty 21k
which would be better. Is it ok to buy camera without warranty?
Is there any camera in Olympus or Sony in 20k range?

Hi guys,
If we order online from sites like lensmateonline, does any other charges/ taxes apply? Or is it enough to pay just the price+ shipping charges as mentioned in their site?
Haven't ordered anything online till now. Hence, the doubt!

Extra MP doesn't really matter especially when you are not going to print the photo of that size. How often we print photos of big size. 10.1 MP is more than enough. Event a 5-7 MP will do for big prints.
hello
im planning to buy a digi camera around 12-14k. Going through all discussion i olny ended up in having more doubts on models/reviews.
My requirements are for
1. Point and Shoot Still photography(im a novice in photography)
2. Videos(Shoot and transfer to PC)
Which of the follwing would be a better choice?
Canon A2100 12MP,6x zoom, 16K
Canon A2000 10MP,6x zoom, 13k
Canon A1100 12MP,4x zoom, 10k
If there are any additional specs to be noted please guide me on that.
Thanks.
Canon introduced new P&S models. Notable are G11 and S90. Also SX 20 IS and some more powershots.
Mostly there are DSLR related announcements also coming in a week or 2.
Rumors are high about
1. 100mm macro with new Hybrid IS
2. 60D
3. T1/2000D - Slotted below T1i
4. 7D Full frame

*Puts order on hold*. Huh? What newer version?
ICONIC cams are seldom bettered. Remeber Canon G6.
G10 is out yet none of the successors could outdo the first one. Finally Canon released a G11 with a 9MP sensor, ending the maddening megapixel race for the first time.
So get the LX3, it has everything you need. Even if at IFA Panasonic announces LX4 or something, it will take 6 months to come into stores.
Every 10-11 months a new version comes out. So buy LX3, it fits your requirements perfectly
