Can anyone help me with the prices of Canon 350D, 400D in Bangalore (grey)?

What are the equivalent options in the same price range as these two?

^^I thought it'd be cheaper or maybe the dollar appreciation is taking its toll. Jayesh typically gives very good prices.

With warranty the price from Canon India for the above kit is 42K. So I think he is quoting 36K as with warranty price.

That is a huge misnomer. M went out of fashion with the first auto exposure cameras that had A - aperture priority - mode like the Canon AE-1 and Nikon FE. M is just slower because it takes you more time to get the exposure right.
Pros who I have worked with often shoot in P. Modern cameras do a pretty good job. Of course there are times you'd want Manual control but those times are rare. I only use M to keep the exposure unchanged while using a graduated neutral density filter. Otherwise its A. Easier for me to think in terms of depth of field and leave the rest to the camera.

I am a noob when it comes to P&S. But now I need one.

Requirements:
1) At least 28mm wide angle, don't care about zoom.
2) High quality image.
3) High quality video, hopefully HD.
4) Very small, should be pocketable or belt mounted.
5) Must have IS, this is for action photography while in action.

Any users of pnasonic FZ 30

I have been using panasonic FZ 30 for last 2.5 yrs, it's a great camera.

Having used nikon G20 manual camera for many years, While purchasing a digital camera i had some specific requirments for a camera and panasonic fz 30 was best suiting the purpose.

1) I did not want a DSLR, i prefer to see a preview (realtime) on the display screen to frame it properly and then click the photograph.
2) the display screen should be rotatable and flexible enough.
a rotatable and retractable display screen was must as i hate having camera pinned to my eyes ( using EVF) when clicking this kind of makes the subject stiffen up. especially at family functions or in public place, if you are holding camera away from your own face you can sort of put the subject person at ease. also it is much handy to click photographs of flora and fauna in macro mode. It also helps greatly when clicking photographs of children otherwise you have to bend down to reach their level.
3) i wanted a fixed zoom lense, it's easy to carry single lense then multiple lenses in you bag, that too fixed, so less chances of dirt/moisture seeping in.
4) zoom lense to cover wide and narrow angle, good for portraits and general panoramic shots. FZ 30 has 12X optical zoom ( extendable up to 19X if you restrict photo size to 3mb)
5) with capacity to click more than 3mb size, FZ 30 can click 8mb
6) with decent amount of options in terms of ISO setting, good shutter & aperature speed/opening.
8) A good lense quality, (OIS) image stabilizer of panasonic FZ 30's leica lense is legendary.
9) most important manual liquid dampened zoom ring, this is what i love most in this camera. The zoom ring and manual focus rings are just too good. apart from giving it a almost manual camera feel it also gives zooming capabilities while recording a movie with this camera.
10) weight and sturdy feeling, some people might call this disadvantage but i wanted this in my camera to give solid feeling and to avoid shake at lower shutter speeds.
11) one more most loved feature in this camera is the workhorse battery, the camera battery is absolutely gem. it gives you minimum 250 exposures with more than 75% of flash use.

would like to invite comments from all the panasonic users.

Yeah...thats correct...

If size is not the concern, then S5 IS or P80 is also a very good option.

Thanks Abhijit, that's a good one, already succeeded by 870 as noted by Navin. But that's not an issue. I am not looking for latest and greatest, just the features I need.

I found some competitors for the Canon SD8xx IS. But I am not sure how they stack up. I need IS absolutely.

Fujifilm FinePix F100fd - 1/1.6 (big sensor)
Casio Exilim EX-Z200 (HD video in H.264, wow!)
Nikon Coolpix S600
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 (25mm and full HD)
Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FX35 (25mm and full HD)
Sony DSC-W170

Any insight would be welcome.

They seem to be evenly matched & Fuji seeming to have the largest sensor. DMC FX 500 is the most expensive of the lot.
Head to head comparo in Dpreview:
