How is the Acer Aspire 4920 @ 43k?? Is this a good lap top and at a good price point? I am looking at this or the Dell XPS 1330(looks very good - though the specs seem lower) or the Tablet that Viper bought the- TX1301AU.

I know nothing about computers .. and I need to buy one immediately.
The Acer is VFM, Core2Duo.
Dell is expensive compared to Acer, but is thin & light, so you pay for that!

The Tablet which Viper bought is good for browsing and daily tasks, but if you are planning for heavy processor intensive tasks, get a Core 2 Duo with 2MB L2 cache.

Make sure you upgrade to 2GB of RAM for the best performance.

I want specific info about the keyboard of XPS m1330, from users of this particular model. Thanks

My bro uses a 12" model from XPS range and its keyboard started giving problems in 1st year after purchase..Tomorrow he is sending his laptop back to Dell for this problem.

He has stock battery and it has a battery backup of 3 hour in normal usage and 2.1hour in wi-fi..I think its 6 cell battery..

Yup... I agree... hence the choices given were the ones that I had kinda narrowed down on based on my limited research.

Again I agree. But I am looking at mobility - My work is now going to make me run around a lot - so weight and stamina - both matter. And if wishes were horses I would NOT like to have to trade what may be good features for achieving the same.

My use for the laptop will be predominantly work - therefore all the connectivity options - wireless/blue-tooth, broadband etc are important - and some pleasure like cut a CD/vcd/DVD or two make DVD out of the material in my Video Camera, Some basic photo shopping et all. Therefore storage capacity is important as well. I will NOT be Gaming.

If this is what ALL the laptops do - then we are back to square one!!

I have this m1330

Its Awesome
Screen Awesome though 13.3 inch
Simply Beautiful.
Key board a joy to use.
i got finger print also and this is also easy to use.
Sounds Blasters added and u get awesome sound.
Excellent Battery Life ( mine runs for about 3-4 hours WIFI 100% on )

The only drawback. Available in vista and even if u get the XP installed, the drivers with the pack are vista compatible

@gpoz

Congratulations, how much did it cost in the end? (Did you order from Dell India?)

I am trying to decide this Dell vs Sony SZ vs Apple Macbook (to be different).

Please keep us posted on your opinions of the M1330. I am especially interested in hearing your views on the screen. Thanks

I am very happy with using Dell.
I have been using DELL PRECISION M65 Mobile workstation since August 2006 and am very satisfied with the performance.
Paid a total of 1.15L for the complete set with 3 years complete cover and the config is as follows
2.0 Core 2 Duo
2 GM Ram
160 GB HDD
15.5 " Screen
256 MB Graphic Card (dont remember the name)
9Cell battery (which earlier used to give me 4 hours not gives about 3 hrs
DVD R/W 8x
3 years complete cover (this alone costed me about 15-20K)

The cost appears alittle high as the time I bought it Core2Duo were just launched and were expensive.
The only issue that I am experiencing is the Wireless Lan Card sometimes does not connect to my Wi Fi adapter. But I am getting it changed (under warranty/ Complete cover).
Rest I would rate it 9.5/10 in overall performance.

My brother 4 months ago bought DELL XPS 1330
Paid about 66K
I dont remember the config but it was the basic config when this series was launched. bought it in the 1st month of launch.
Basic cost was 60K paid 6 K extra for the 9 cell extended battery, and a bigger graphic card. Rest everything was the basic config.
He is also very happy with the laptop.

Where can we find info on Dell offer 'Coupon' codes? Who are they normally issued to?

Dell do not offer any kind of "coupon" in india, however you can always bargain with dell representatives. They generally give discount of 2-3 K discounts very easily

Thanks ashthedivx
It's just that when you spec up laptop on the Dell India site, near the end it gives you the option to enter 'Coupon' codes. I thought that there might be a few floating around India. Maybe given the certain companies? (At least that's the way in UK/USA)

Congrats on your buy ...

Hope you know the 9 cell battery sticks out at the back, and looks S%$%
but has a killer up time of 6 hrs+ in mine, and ofcourse it makes your laptop much heavier than specified in the tech specs..

Including the 9 cell battery, I think it weighs around 2.3kg which is good.

The laptop will be elevated in an angle, which is easier to type (with 9 cell battery) so I think its cool...

Still have the laptop, and I swear by it. Except for the OEM battery - I swear AT it.

Thanks for this input steer.
will definitely convey this to my friend who as you said has been swearing at his battery again lately.
could you pm me some link to this hongkong based source.
