However - had a question - my DVD player & TV both have component cable options - is it worth buying a component cable or a regular DVD video cable is just fine - my TV is a tube TV
If your TV supports computer monitor type resolution (1024 X 768 types) then it's worth exploring digital input, provided your TV accepts them. else component works best for what your TV can display.

Video gurus can throw more light on this.

Wow !!! hold on a second.
Your Component input in the TV cannot take Optical in. Moreover the links you posted are all Analogue component connectors.
By OFC I thought you were referring to Oxygen Free Copper.

Optical Cable is all about transmitting light signals, fixing optical connectors to a cable is not some easy task that can be done.

will there be any difference in quality between ordinary cable and OFC cable?
Nope. Just buy an existing cable. It will be much easier, quicker, cheaper and better.
(And as others have said, its not optical)

Actually, HDMI and DVI are technically same for video, but with HDMI having capability to carry multi-channel audio signals also.

Thanks. Exactly what i was going to say.

Gettings a HDMI > DVI cable is easy and cheap (its digital, so cable quality isnt "so" important).

Chances are the TV will have HDMI and not DVI since HDMI also carries audio and is the more popular connector on the A/V scene.

Just to make it more clear, you want to use the your DVD player speakers for your TV right?
