This overall look & theme of the iOS is getting too long in the tooth now. Desperately needs a major overhaul !

Main thing is things just work and they work as if it’s a brand new phone. I am on the iPhone 11 bought in November 2019. Updates have been fine, phone works perfect except for the battery which I have to charge twice a day. I don’t bother with battery percentages at all or look at the figure. Battery low, just charge it.

Having been on the Android side of things as well with flagship phones from Samsung, they just don’t last or give the same feel after a couple of years. Sure if you want amazing customisation etc then Android is the way to go.

If you want a stable experience which could be boring depending on your point of view then nothing to beat the iPhone. I’ll take the same old experience anytime with the fluidity and stability it gives me.

Cheers

What a crappy update this iOS has been. Apart from option to just rearrange and tint the icons and a few control center menus , there's absolutely nothing that is a deal breaker as such!

Seems like Apple has really hit a plateau with all their famed innovation and stuff they boast about. There's barely any innovation or any apparent changes since the iOS 12 , if I'm not wrong.
!

I guess the functional updates are through Apple Intelligence.. the AI integration looks meaningful and is a first step towards making our mobile phone an intelligent assistant tool. Unfortunately availability is restricted to devices running latest Apple silicons.

I keep having the same issue on my 15 every now and then. Can’t figure out the reason, the phone is just 2 months old.

I too face this issue on my 15+ but you don’t need to disconnect the call. You can ask Siri to answers the call when the slider gets stuck.

I don’t know why that happens yet. Initially I thought this could be a problem with my phone only but seems to be a common issue now.

Spot on, my 13 pro max is going to complete 3 years shortly and apart from a dip in battery health due to chemical aging, it’s even smoother now than it was on iOS 15 that it shipped with. My 6S still powers on and works smooth, despite being almost 10 years old.

Hell, even the iPod nano in my car still works perfectly. Smooth touch and it’s used every single day, still on its original battery from 2012.

I do hope for minor things like a charge limiter (it will be there in iOS 18 but only for iPhone 16 I believe) and some other stuff. But all in all, never try to fix something that isn’t broken.

I had the very same problem a few months back. But it resolved spontaneously.

On a funny note, My phone speaker volume was quite low, but I never noticed it. Recently I dropped the phone and now the speakers are LOUD.

Now that iOS18 is officially launched with a host of features that were on Android and people wanted them badly on iOS, I wonder what is the usp left now for android. Only a better keyboard and notification arrangement, value for money tag and different looks or am I missing something here. I've tried to list down some of the features that are coming in iOS 18 including the not so highlighted features from WWDC here:-

1. The most obvious homescreen icon placement anywhere in the grid
2. Tinting icons with any colour you like. (Not as good as themes in Android but a customization nonetheless. People wanted stuff like this for a long time)
3. Contact suggestion when typing a number in phone app. (I'm happy apple finally did it)
4. Call recording (never thought apple would ever allow this. Hope it will be available in India)
5. RCS with send later and satellite sms
6. Applock using face ID/ touch ID
7. New control center with customization
8. New photos app with AI sorting
9. Mail app with gmail like categorization
10. Some minor app updates like Journal, new calculator, reminder integrated in calender etc.

So my question is what is left now that people will ask apple to add to iOS now. Also, does this mean that people with a budget of flagship phones who didn't buy iphones before because of lack of customization will now buy iphones instead of Samsung flagships.

Apple phones in India and value for money in the same sentence? God I feel so poor lol:

The other points you have listed about Apple now allowing similar customizations as that of Android may end up backfiring as well. Many Apple users buy it for exclusivity and if its lost, they might switch back to other phones.

.

He is talking about Android phones remaining USPs.

IMHO, all that innovation and creativity at Apple seems to have hit a ceiling. A lot of times you see Apple playing catch-up with Android, rather than leading the trend.

However, everything said and done, I can never think of moving back to an Android, after having used the iPhones for over half a decade now. The ease-of-use and the seamless interface is too much to let go.

I believe You are talking about the charging optimization option which gives option to limit charging to 80% which is missing in 13 pro max. It is there in my 15+ but I have never used it. My previous iphone 13 was always on Optimized battery charging option and when I exchanged it after using for 14 months, battery was still at 96%.

Same way since day one I have kept 15+ on Optimized battery charging and even after 180 charging Cycles the battery health is at 100%. So, I don't think this limit charging to 80% makes any difference. And I do use this phone quite a lot.

Ah yes, 15’s get it as well, with iOS 18 you get a slider with more options though, not just 80%.

They’re different things, the charge limiter is a direct charge cut off at the preset percentage. It is not time sensitive as in there is no predictive element to it, it just waits for the phone to hit the set percentage and it stops the charging and maintains the battery at that level.

Optimised charging is the phone trying to predict when you’ll wake up so it can start topping up the final 20%.

The issue here is, it’s rarely worked for me as I don’t got to bed at the same time everyday as my schedule varies. I also never charge overnight as I want the alarm within arms reach and charging a lithium battery next to your face for hours when asleep is not safe.

So what happens is it fails to predict correctly and I’ll either have a phone at 80-85% or it’ll be at 100% but it’s been at 100% for many hours which is again not ideal.

Charge limiting lithium cells to 80% is ideal for battery life, be it your phone, model plane, car, anything with lithium cells. 35-70% if you want be conservative. But I just charge to 100% most days as I need that battery to last for at least 70% of my day before I plug in.

As for health preservation, mine dropped to 99% at 249 cycles over 8.5 months of use.

Does anyone have an idea if the Apple Store at Jio World Drive in Bandra Kurla Complex (Mumbai) changes the battery while you wait. Alternatively any place which replaces the battery immediately from town to Bandra.

Normally they keep the phone for a couple of days which I don’t want to do as it’s too much of a pain.

Cheers

What I've done is I made a shortcut to ring an alarm when the phone reaches 75% so that I can take it off charge. I've hardly ever charged my phone to over 90% in 1.5 years of use. Maybe 2-3 times max. I try not to let it go below 20% either. That way after 218 cycle my battery health is 94%. Although that is through analytics data. The battery section in the settings app still shows 100% health.

Right but that won’t work at night, if in the day my phone is charging, it’s on a power bank so most of the time it’s in front of me again making an alarm of no use.

All this headache is solved by a simple charge limiter which Apple has (after a decade), finally gotten around to providing.

Mine too was at 100% stated health, 95% via the true readings in analytics, after 242 cycles of use.

In the end, just avoid deep discharge and overheating, it’s meant to serve us not the other way around, doing these two simple things will get you about 3 years of use when you hit 80% and most folks by then anyway sell it and move on.
