Any ios equivalent of Samsung wallet, something which really works in India |
I apologize for quoting my own post.
I carry too many objects with me due to my professional requirement. So carrying a wallet is an inconvenience and had been in situations where I misplaced my wallet with credit cards and got stressed out from time to time till I find it.
I have a 15 pro with me bought at a mouth watering price in USA. My wife uses Pro-Max. Though I love the integration of the IOS to the hardware I feel comfortable with Flagship android phones. Because of the value offered by the current purchase I am considering a move to iOS.
But the deal breaker for me is the samsung wallet. I have been using Samsung wallet(earlier Pay) for the past 6 years for Credit , Debit cards, UPI wallets, UPI accounts, Digilocker documents, Train/Flight tickets etc.,
If the iOS offers any option of NFC payment in India I would jump the gun readily, but extensive search for the past few weeks has yielded no clear results. I am thinking of letting go the phone unless I get some real option in iOS for NFC.

My phone is an 15 pro max
Wanted to check if the update went through fine for you. When 17.3 rolled out, the phone got auto updated and then simply stopped working. The Always on Display was working but that's about it. Touch stopped working completely along with Face ID. Restarting the phone also did not work so I had to take it to the service centre and they did a complete reset of the phone and told me there is no other option (the staff behavior was completely unbecoming though, that's a story for another day).
Luckily had back up on iCloud so did not lose a lot of data. But this has now made me wary of straight away updating the software as more than the data (since I had back up), it was the running around for a full working day with no access to a lot of important things, that had me irritated. Hope this has been addressed.

Yes, it worked perfectly fine with me on my iPhone 13 Pro.
Also you can toggle the Auto "iOS Update" switch to off, in-case you don't want that.

It is always advisable to back up your data on iCloud before any update. Even Apple website says that.

Are you saying that batteries replaced by Apple are not as good as the originals?
My wife's 12 mini's battery health has degraded to 77% and she is unwilling to upgrade to bigger iPhones (was thinking of getting the vanilla 15). So I am thinking of replacing the battery and let her use for a couple of years more.
Now, is that a bad idea?
In my experience over 3 iPhones, this was a bad idea. And this was in Dubai, Singapore and India.

At the risk of losing all the data on my iPhone 12 Pro (3 years +) , I opted for the iCloud paid subscription of 200 GB. All this while I was on the free subscription (5 GB) and wasn't backing up my phone anywhere (I know I'm stupid) , except the PHOTOS on my MacBook Air 13" (which is barely 256 GB).
So after upgrading the iCloud storage , the iPhone does it's usual thing of backing up once it is connected to power and Wi-Fi , etc. It's been nearly a week since the upgrade but there is no backup happening to the iCloud. The latest back-up is still the one when the iPhone was purchased i.e. somewhere in 2021.
WhatsApp too isn't backing up , IDK why?
However, I think the photos are being backed up separately onto the iCloud. But again , that too is on 'sync' since a week now. Everytime I check it , it's the same status.
So , yesterday I forcefully opted to 'Back-up NOW' in the iPhone setting with ofcourse phone being connected to power and Wi-Fi. But randomly it hung up ! :Shockked:
- the recent calls list disappeared ,
- the icons of the apps on the home screen too disappeared ,
- to my shock the entire Photos gallery was EMPTY !
- the phone started behaving completely erratic.
I tried restarting the phone , but to no avail. It than went on a restart loop 2-3 times and then settled.
After this somehow the restoring process started and the Photos started to re-appear in the gallery. I had some 11k + photos & videos which started coming in on-by-one. It took nearly 8 hours for the restore !!
The apps too came back out of nowhere.
This is the 1st time that I have noticed this on an iPhone and was taken aback.
Can someone help here as to how can I get this back-up right? I'm a little worried with yesterday's incident and scared that I might lose all my data , primarily the photos. They're quite a lot.
P. S.: Available free space on my iPhone is ~ 5 GB , if that matters.

Login to iCloud from a browser and do a check if things are synced. Then try login out and login in on phone once. This should sort the issue most often.

Updated 3 devices to 17.4: iPhones 12 Pro, 13 and 15 Pro. No issues faced. Significantly, observing a slight improvement in battery life.

Replacement batteries are just a ruse. No significant benefit other than mental satisfaction. 77% battery life means the device is aching for an upgrade; the battery replacement will not serve any purpose.

I was also a big fan of Apple Pay while staying in Europe as you don't have to carry a physical wallet as the iPhone has my CC information and paying through iPhone and Watch was a breeze. Back in India I used to miss the functionality and ease.
A workaround I figured out and I won't call it an exact replica of functionality but it solves the purpose of not carrying or forgetting to carry a physical wallet. I got a Rupay credit card issued and link it with my CRED UPI pay. Now if I have to pay to any vendor using a CC, I will pay it through CRED by scanning the QR code without carrying the actual card. Meanwhile ICICI back allow the functionality of withdrawing the money through ATM without the physical debit card. App like Mparivahaan and Digilocker negate the need of carrying the physical license. All big airlines have apple wallet compatible boarding pass and app like book my show have the option of saving the m ticket in the wallet app and keep removing it automatically after expiry.
I know it is not a foolproof substitute to Samsung pay but the work around solves the purpose to great extend:)

Could you please confirm what is the battery health of the 12 Pro ?
My 12 Pro is on 17.0.1 with 79% battery health and I generally refrain from updating due to the bugged iOS updates , off late.
Since you mentioned about the battery improvement, it has got me interested.

Haven't faced any issue with updates as yet with the 12 Pro; have always kept the phone on the latest update. Battery health is at 87%. I generally refrain from charging the phone beyond 85 on a daily basis.
Hello Guys,
So, last night I charged my iPhone XR overnight and when I woke up, it was overheated and refused to turn on.
I tried various methods to turn it on with help of youtube but in vain.
Went to MG Road Aptronix for a suggestion. And through their diagnostics they mentioned it was a hardware issue and didn't care to explain in detail.
Does anyone know any trustworthy third-party contact in Namma Bengaluru?
First decent battery outing on the iPhone 15 Promax.
It was charged to 100% on Wednesday night at 11:30pm
As of today at 11:30am, the battery remains is 24%
Screen Time : 4:40 hours
Total Battery Time : 36 Hours
Looks like the 17.4 iOS update is showing its colors.
This is satisfactory. :)
