iPhone 15 Promax Battery Life- Brief Review

Well, I'm using this phone for about a month now and have to confess that I'm not too happy with it's battery life.

As you can see from this image. This is the best I got out of this phone till date (other cycles are way less).

Charged to 100% on Tuesday at 9:15pm

It dropped to 17% on Thursday at 11:00am.

Basically got 38 hours of battery life from a single charge with 6.5 hours of screen time.

Most other cycles are usually 24-hours with a higher screen time like between 8-10 hours.

In my previous experience, iPhone 13 Promax had the best battery life which during the initial days used to consistently dole out 30+ hours from a single charge.

To be expected honestly, they did not increase battery capacity from the 13 pro max onwards, with extra RAM and faster processing speeds + more graphics cores and the always on display, it lasts less than the 13 pro max in all the battery tests people have done on YouTube.

They even made it much thicker than the 13 (and 14) lineup and still failed to put in a bigger battery.. :Frustrati

Personally think that the 13 series was the best of the lot; with regard to battery. Neither my 12 pro nor my 15 pro can withstand the comparison.

In the entire range from 12 to 15's, the 12 Pro series devices have the worst battery life of all. I'm not sure about the Max variants though.

I think even the Vanilla 12's are poor in battery performance compared to their newer iterations.

Is there a way to get 'Hello' screen back on new iPhone 15 Pro Max?

Had to do some initial setup while carrying the phone from US to India. Now, when we want to transfer data from an older phone to the new, we are unable to see the backup screen.

Please advise.

You can do a reset: General -> Transfer or Reset Phone -> Reset. Check if this gets you where you want to be. Else, select Erase All Content and Settings in the same menu, which will essentially wipe the phone entirely and bring it to "shipped condition".

Will it also erase e-sim settings? We just don't want to lose e-sim settings.

No, it won't lose the esim settings. When you tap on reset, it will ask you if you want to retain esim setting or delete it.

I have the vanilla 12 since ~2.5 years now. Battery stands at 85%. Am still able to get through a typical day. Comes from 100% in the morning to 20ish % by dinner time in a typical day with SOT of ~4.5hours on average. Pre-5G it was better no doubt but not sure if the faster discharge is because of readily available 5G or battery age. Planning to change the battery at 3 year mark.

I have the 13 mini since Oct 2021. The battery holding capacity as per ios is currently at 86%. While i do not consider my self a heavy tasker, it still typically lasts me a full day with 10 -15% battery left at night. Most of the day, it is on wi-fi (at home and office) and during commute on mobile data. Plus the regular app usage of spotify, audible, whatsapp, calls & some time watching youtube videos or streaming on tv etc. No games installed on the phone. Am happy so far my phone, especially the battery life compared to Iphone 7, from which i upgraded.

Agree on all points except the thickness of 15 Promax vs. the previous Promax versions.

Not sure if it's software related. Updated to the latest OS and hope the battery improves.

Exactly my thought process too. 12 Promax was the worst of the lot.

But, hey it's a minor inconvenience. If it lasts 24 hours for a full charge for next 2-years, I am good.

I was referring to the fact that every year they’ve grown thicker, from 7.4mm on the 12 pro max to 7.65mm on the 13 to 8.3mm on the current 15 lineup.

When I went from the 12 to the 13 I could easily feel the increased thickness (not placebo as I didn’t know it’s thicker, found out later when I felt it and researched).

I don’t even want to imagine 7.65 to 8.3. Now it’s subjective and if one is not a heavy user or not very particular about in hand ergonomics, it may not be quickly noticed, agreed.

2 years? You’ll be on the 16 pro max next year trust me rl:

Im a heavy whatsapp user and I browse and read on the phone. My Xs MAX, 11 Pro Max, 12 Pro Max and now 15 Pro Max battery usually lasts about 24 hours and then reaches 10-15% of charge level and then of course I recharge it. I normally charge it in the early morning.
I try to be always on the latest iOS.

My iPhone 6 which I use primarily as a navigation device in the car, still has 85% battery health and its charge generally lasts about 15-16 hours when left idle though it is an old phone. It closed out at iOS 12 or something.

My Apple Watch Ultra 1 actually is almost always on my wrist. Its battery lasts nearly 2 days.
At the end of the first 24 hours it reaches the half point. And at the end of the second 24 hours it reaches the 3-4% ‘Red level’. I usually charge it every morning and bring it back up to 100.

Again I try to always be on the latest Watch OS.

The iPads are used for Teams and Google Meet calls and reading books and answering emails and browsing and editing and youtube and all. They need charging typically every 24 hours.

The apple pencil 1 is usually on low charge levels. I simply plug it to the iPad Mini (2021 model) and charge for just a few minutes. The apple pencil 2 is also low on charge usually so I simply attach it to the iPad Air (2022 model) which I use so that it gets a little juice.

I actually find that the iPad Air does every thing more or less that an iPad Pro can do or even what a laptop can do. I switched off from all laptops in 2017. Used to use MacBook Air which served me well from 2011 onwards. Went to iPad Pro with Keyboard and Pencil 1. It was superb. Underwent user fatigue and then switched to the iPad Air and Pencil 2 in 2021 or 2022 or so I think.

The iPad mini is my go-anywhere device. Ive stopped even reading on my Kindle, preferring the Mini instead.

Apple is like Hotel California. You can check out any time you like but you can never leave.
