The iPhone Thread

Any ios equivalent of Samsung wallet, something which really works in India
I’m facing an issue with my iPhone 7 wherein I just don’t get any WhatsApp notifications / messages till the time I open the app. I had not updated the app or anything , yet this cropped up all of a sudden.
Tried everything from updating WhatsApp, resetting the network settings , etc. It happens on wi fi and cellular, both. There is no pattern.
This is my work phone and there are certain communications that happen on WhatsApp which I miss quite a few times.
Same is also observed erratically for Outlook emails. They don’t come through at proper timings whenever they are sent.
However, rest all the nonsense notifications viz. YT , Amazon, FK , etc. come in just normally.
What could be the issue?
The only thing I’m left to do is a phone reset , which honestly I’m avoiding.
My iPhone is running on iOS 15.7.2 version. Should I update to 15.8.1 ? I’m worried that it might cause more harm than good given Apple’s latest software release pattern.
Anyway now it is only receiving security updates. Not sure of these are really that important.

Please try turning on background app refresh in settings.

Yes , it’s ON for all the necessary apps. Ironically, the apps for which I have turned this OFF are giving timely notifications.

Go to iPhone Settings app -> Notifications -> Whatsapp. Check if everything is enabled like this:
You see 'Whatsapp Notification Settings' in the above screenshot? Click on that now and enable everything like this:

Done, everything is exactly like in the above screenshots.
I even tried resetting the Notification settings in WhatsApp.
Idk what changed , but these notifications stopped all of a sudden since last week.

Does it hang if you have a lot of incoming messages? Reason I ask this is because it can be due to low storage space. Try force restarting your iPhone.

Suggest using the Gmail app. It delivers email notifications as soon as you receive one!

Better to update to the latest iOS version rather than resetting it.

Nope , it works normally albeit a little heating when used extensively.
Also , storage is 50% free.

Okay, but than it was working just fine for all these years. Suddenly, how it gave up?

Probably just Apple indirectly sending you signals to upgrade your work phone to the latest iPhone. ;)

Anyone facing issues with receiving notification? Mine is an iPhone 13 recently updated to iOS 16.4. Today morning onwards, I notice that no notifications are coming, be it WhatsApp, Outlook email, or any app alerts. Only when I open WhatsApp/Outlook, it gets refreshed, and I see all the notifications together.
I tried restarting, but it's still the same. |
Hi Repsol , did you manage to fix this issue?
I’m facing an exact same issue with my iPhone 7 (as mentioned in earlier posts).
Yesterday, I updated to latest iOS 15.8.1 update; but the issue persists.

Yes, I think a reset solved the issue.

Have you tried to toy with the "Focus" mode, check if WhatsApp is under DND mode. That might be the reason. Give it a shot.
It seems you have "Focus" mode enabled for different settings, like Driving/Sleeping/Work etc.
I have set the Focus mode for Driving & Sleeping and no notifications comes during that time.

Checked that as well. I have pretty much checked every possible setting ; but to no avail.
Force restarted and updated the iOS to the latest version as well.
I think the only option left is a factory reset. :disappointed
Honestly , I really like the form factor and the ease of usability of this little phone and don't want to give up on it yet. A 'perfect' secondary phone for me. It's the max (~7 Years) I have ever used a phone and would like to continue till it gives up on me completely!

Is this for individual WA messages or Group Messages or both because you can silence group notifications from the Group settings. Try checking for updates in the App store, maybe WA has an update.
Are you getting other notifications on your home screen? SMS,Emails, Swiggy etc?
I have Background app refresh off, still notifications do come. ( I have turned off notifications for Groups). What doesn't happen till I open WA is populating of messages. This is on a iP13.

It's for all the messages on WA irrespective of single or groups. Same issue is seen with the notifications of Outlook as well.
Surprisingly the notifications from YT , Amazon , FK , etc. come all in time.
Seems like it's primarily for the apps that works on push / fetch mechanism from the server , coz the issue is same for Outlook emails.
I shall factory rest the phone and check. This is the only option left. Have tried every damn thing !
