My 15 pro max is 10 days shy from being 11 months old with 168 battery charge cycles & the battery health stands at 96%. It dropped from 97 to 96 precisely 2 days back. My screen time ranges anywhere between 3.5 to 6.5 hrs (depends on the official calls I take).

Trade in this phone for $650 to Apple and get the iPhone 16 Promax

Get rid of the headache and get yourself the iPhone 16 Pro Max mobike008. Forget the battery cycles, just use and enjoy the latest and greatest.

Since we are on Tim Cook’s incentive list for promoting Apple you will get a kickback from your trade in as well which will reduce the landed cost rl:

Cheers

This is real apples vs. apples comparison.

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like your 15 Promax is holding up pretty good.

My screen time is roughly around the same as yours.

What I noticed is that after 96%, it drops pretty fast. Like 1% in a few weeks so you might want to keep an eye on it.

Shhhhh...Dont socialize the kickback situation here...lol!

Jokes apart, I reckon folks here need to chill a bit. I don't care about battery % nor it's impacting my lifestyle. I can replace this phone with a 16 promax tomorrow, if I wish but, I'm a informed buyer so I weigh in options before making a call.

Being a hardcore apple fan, I love to keep track of everything apple including its performance and praise them where they deserve and beat them down where they don't.

I'm gonna be in Portland (No Taxes) next month on some work so might consider picking up a 16 Promax if I get that impulse. Otherwise, I will have to live with this beast (err, beauty..isnt she?) for another year which feels like a lifetime. :D

Pic from this morning...This is how I use my phone, no cover, no guardrails, no veils. Pure beauty to be enjoyed in the skin. Sorry for the quality of the pic...taken with my Samsung S24+....

I hope you have a monthly Apple Care subscription :) I do and additionally carry the phone with this little wallet (mostly), but never in case :thumbs up

My 15 Pro Max’s battery has held up quite well. 100% at 198 charge cycles. Few hacks - I charge my phone once in the morning, keep topping up my phone to 75% once a day. I have automations setup at night which kill WiFi, Mobile Data and the flashlight (had accidentally burned out the flash of an older iPhone 5S by leaving the flash on at night). I use mobile data quite a bit since we don’t have WiFi at my client. I prefer using darker backgrounds (find them soothing + they happen to be energy efficient). I don’t use the Always on Display much to prevent OLED burn in. Hope these help. Interesting to see the spectrum of battery health data after one year of usage. 90% in one year seems quite a drop

Recommended 3rd party charger for the iPhone?

Risk of damaging the charging port keeps me away from this practice despite I want to follow it.

So I am curious how about leaving a wireless charger on the desk and keep topping up the battery till 60-70% whenever it goes below 40%? I spend most of my time on my working desk.

What about the additional damage to the battery due to the perceived issue of heating during wireless charging? The wireless charging cycles here are going to remain small anyways.

Any recommendation for good quality safe wireless chargers compatible with all the phones?

Wireless charging AFAIK is more damaging to the phones’s battery. It’s based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. One physical side effect of the very method is circulating currents in the receiving coil (called Eddy currents) which can lead to heating of the battery over prolonged periods of wireless charging. Heat can degrade the battery faster. I’ve personally not used wireless charging much (slow speed also defeats the purpose for me). Love the convenience though of leaving the phone on a surface which can charge it.

That's a lot. My 15 pro is still holding 100% battery health after 10 months and 200+ charging cycles. I limit charge at 80% and never lets it fall below 20%.

Finally after 220 cycles my iPhone 15 pro's batter health fell to 99%. A little sad cos I was hoping it will hold on for one year which is one and a half months away.

BTW, I almost always use the Apple Magsafe charger to charge my phone. It does make the phone feel warm but can't call it heating up. Having a video call makes it heat up more than that.

1. Go to Bur Dubai and get one for approx 4400-4500 AED (around 105K INR). This will be (most likely) a cash transaction, and there is a chance the shop can try and give you an “active”/open device which has a few days of warranty lost

2. Buy at an iStyle (Apple authorized) dealer at MRP of AED 5099. Get a 5% VAT refund. What I like is I can pay by card, and the quality will be guaranteed - no monkey business of open box/active/dealer scams

Would always advise to buy from an authorised dealer, especially in Dubai. The Bur Dubai shops are notorious for pulling a fast one on customers. Since you are spending upwards of 1 Lakh, always better to be safe than sorry.

Wireless charging itself is no more damaging to a battery than wired charging.

Heat is the main reason for cell degradation, and yes you’re right it does cause more heating than wired charging. Which is why you must keep the phone cool during charging to prevent overheating. Ice pack or leave in a chilled room with direct airflow over it.

I’m not a battery expert, but I did get over 1300 cycles using MagSafe exclusively on my 13 pro max before it hit 80% health (Apple says we should get 500 cycles). I don’t use wired charging as the lighting connector scuffs the area around the charging port.

Seems like you use your phone while charging. This can heating and thus faster degradation, just a thought.(add on top the fast charging also)

Atleast in my case I noticed the above, battery which was doing fine dropped drastically as i put on my ac vent holder of car and had closed the vent.

Woah. You are living the Tim Cook's dream. He would use you as the perfect use case as 100% at 198 charge cycle is unheard of. :D

Automation. Sounds nice. I am a non-techie and can't figure out such stuff to save my life.

Firstly, I rarely or almost never use wireless charging as it's too slow and I can understand it's more damaging than helpful.

I have wireless charging in my cars but, it's never used unless its an emergency.

This is the finest piece of information on my specific issue.

I do use the phone while it's charging. Heck, I didn't know it will have such an impact (I mean it's not life changing but, mentally I am devastated by the drop in the battery health...lol!!)

Lesson learnt. No more using the phone while it's getting juiced up.

I see brands like Anker in the market, but never used it. I would suggest getting the standard wall plug from Apple; it probably is not as fast as some of the third party chargers but gets the job done in a reasonable pace.

We've got a couple of Ankers and have found them to be reliable and equally quick for the last 1.5 years or so. The total outlay for brick and wire was around ~1.1K on an Amazon sale.

While I agree with your suggestion of an Apple original charger, the corresponding combined cost is an eyewatering Rs. ~3K off Amazon, and possibly even more from an authorised physical Apple store.

EDIT: Was disappointed with the dual port one from Spigen. Seemed a good deal but the original one conked out, and I had to run pillar to post to courier it to the BLR service centre, who point black said I need to visit personally. Told them not possible and escalated to APAC who rammed them.

Anyway, I sent it to them by courier at my own cost, and also picked the new one up paying from own pocket. Now the second one's one of the ports has conked out! Terrible!
