No the offer means that Jio will buy back your phone at 70% of it's value at the end of one year. You can then upgrade to the new device or can also continue with the phone. Although have no idea what happens if you continue with it.

After a year, they take back the phone and give you 70pc value of the original MRP in form of reliance digital coupons(which you can also use to buy the new iPhone)

Folks, need some help and advice. My wife dropped her iPhone 6 and the screen is shattered. I called up official/authorized Apple service centers and they are quoting anywhere between 13.5-16k for screen replacement. The local stores are quoting 6-8k for the OEM/Chinese version. I'm in a dilemma here as a new iPhone 6 now costs only about 30k. Is it worth to go with the authorized apple service and get the official screen or take risk with a Chinese knockoff? Suggestions/ideas pls. I searched around this thread but couldn't find any help yet. I'm based in South India btw

If budget is not a constraint and phone is pretty much utilised (used for long time), it is good to go for a new phone - peace of mind. Else you can take a chance with the Chinese screens and continue using phone for some more time by losing out on quality. Tough decision!!!

@treadmark, Sorry for the late reply. I had purchased my phone in the store and clarified regarding payback with the shop assistant. With regard to online purchase that you have made, I would suggest you contact both Airtel & Citibank Customer care and confirm that your payback is valid.

Both being standard companies, I am sure that your payback is in the pipeline but it doesn't hurt to confirm.

Cheers.

Yes, this is going to be expensive at Apple as they change the complete front Pannel that includes display and the finger print sensor with some other parts. Your old phone will be like New, I recently got it done in Canada and paid 200 CAD so they are asking about same. Whatever you buy in market won’t have same quality and display and they will only change the display. Not worth saving 5-6000 on outside.

This happened with my wife's 6+ last year and since the phone casing had dents a digitizer replacement wasnt provided, but a phone replacement for 25k. Had to opt for it since wife doesnt had any plans to change her mobile.

Interestingly, replacement phones would carry 6 months warranty but in our case it was 1 year :D

As suggested by others, you will lose on quality when going with chinese versions, better to stick with Apple's.

You could look at irepair.in, if they operate in your place. My friend got his iPhone SE's display replaced for about half the price quoted by apple authorised service centre. He said service is good and there were a lot of customers coming in for screen replacement. They claim the replacement screen is OEM but we are not sure if it is same quality..likely not. They give warranty on the replacement screen though.

If you are not planning to keep the phone for another year or more, go ahead with outside replacement. Just ask them to put oem replacement part (costlier one), the other one might give slightly lesser clarity and response from screen.

Have done this for many of my friends here in BLR, irepair has done the job for them.

I was in similar situation about an year ago, however, my wife's phone was a 4s. Apple quoted 15K for the display when the phone itself was retailing for 14-15K :deadhorse

I chose ifixit. They supply quality parts but you will need someone who can carry it for you from the US. I paid 40 dollars for the screen which was around Rs. 2800/- and my iPhone is now as good as new. Quality wise the display is as crisp as original one. The only difference I noticed is that this fixit display has a little cooler colour tone than the original display. I posted it here: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadget...ml#post4192844

If someone can get it shipped to their place in US and then carry it for you, this is going to be the best option for you. You will appreciate the quality which is as good as the OE.
Regards,
Saket

Has anyone bought the iPhone X from USA? I was told that they are currently not selling unlocked phones in Apple stores yet

Verizon and T mobile versions are unlocked, you can buy them and use it here by activating with your SIM here.

Pro Tip, if possible get the Verizon version since it has a better modem from Qualcomm

It’s the Verizon CDMA?

Yes Verizon is a CDMA network, but the iPhones sold on their network are also compatible with the GSM networks, in fact their models are true world phones that support the max.no of networks. GSM, CDMA, 3G, LTE etc. all in one

I have a Verizon model number 7 plus at home, and it works without any issues with all indian networks.
