All these websites like cashify and cashurcell act as marketplaces for local mobile shops. Everyone, please calm your break-horses. I can't in any way put it better myself, so I'm linking this, and this (which came today). You're free to make your choices, and to not buy Apple devices ever again, but the gist of it is this: no one ever created permanent customers and hence sales by dropping the ball on experience, service, and satisfaction, least of all Apple. Remember, this company is the one that started OS updates for mobile devices. Or, it used to be that what you bought was what you got, wether you kept it for a day or a year. If you do feel strongly about OS updates slowing down your phones, you're free to not update at all, and keep the phone as was, the day you bought it, and miss out on all the new features and security updates.

I'd give them the benefit of the doubt on this one, specially when it's clear that battery tech is short for today's scenario.

As far as I understand, Apple queues power hungry commands to make sure it doesn't create a power surge and an unexpected shutdown on an older device with high battery wear and tear. This is the end result of the so called Apple "deliberately" slowing down older devices. I remember a friend of mine having an issue with photo editing applications on his iPhone 5S. The phone used to shutdown the moment he tries to use some filter applications. The issue was resolved after a subsequent OS update. I think Apple's algorithm might have kicked in after the OS update in his case. He is still using his phone. IMHO, as long as the user experience is not affected, it doesn't matter at what frequencies the CPU is running or what RAM the device has. Regarding notifying users of the same, I don't want to see a notification on my phone saying "We are slowing your device down as you are having a bad battery!" If the intention was to make people buy a new device, why would they bring it back to its original performance levels when a new battery is installed? Just my 2 cents.

Remembering the days when OnePlus "deliberately" throttled RAM usage to ensure better battery life and Samsung "deliberately" pumped up their CPU closks when benchmark applications are run. :uncontrol

I am not particularly impressed by this so called apology from Apple. This is a CYA operation in reaction to the Class Action suits and meant to mollify customers and possibly the Courts. Apple are hardly known for their modesty. Remember 'hold the phone correctly' as a reaction to antennagate?

$70 to 29 for 1 year i.e. 2018. Sorry Apple, you need to try harder. I spent a significant amount of money for my IP7+ 256 GB early '17 only to find out Apple has inserted a software "brake" on the CPU and sub systems in their latest OS without informing me.

What the heck! Reminds me of VW flashing their cars with revised firmware to ensure compliance to pollution norms but with many customers experiencing the side effect of less than expected performance.

Instead of focussing on making the iPhone svelte they could increase the size by a mm or so but put in a beefier battery like many high end Android manufacturers do. That's a practical way forward. No one minds carrying a few extra grams of weight.

I'm neither a fan nor a critic of Apple. We did buy an iOS phone and computer last year because it best met the requirement set and I don't really plan on buying another anytime soon, but I get amused at people claiming stuff like your quote above.

Symbian and Windows Phone - to name just two I've owned personally - were dishing out OS/software updates before iPhones ever existed or became mainstream. Nokia PC Suite for Symbian was capable of device sync and segregated backups, mobile modem tethering (wireless and USB) and sending texts/IMs directly from the PC interface (the UI was pretty cool too:)) while iTunes was still just an iPod media mgmt solution.

Apple are very good at what they do, I use their devices, but they're far from being the be all and end all of the mobile experience a lot of people would love to believe. Be a fan, but lay off the hyperbole.

Is it a good idea to get an iPhone SE. I am a first timer on ios and just want to feel the iphones and the much hoopla around them. Just normal usage phones, whatspp, web surf, etc. I am getting a good exchange offer on my old moto g on amazon.

the small size of the SE attracts me as I dislike bulky devices and I thnk SE would be perfect low cost iphone to experience the apple experience.

I don't think the SE will be an ideal launchpad to get the so called Apple experience. If you have the budget, I would suggest to start with the iPhone 7 32GB.

I do not want to spend much. around 15k. I am getting good androids in the same budget so thought of trying out the SE

Actually, I'll go against the grain and suggest you go ahead. I'll tell you why.

We got an SE for the better half a few months ago, for requirements nearly identical to yours plus she wanted a small phone for better ergonomics (smaller hands and big phones are a disaster).

The phone isn't a flagship, but has great hardware for a moderate user. Identical to the 6s specs-wise (except a couple of things like older gen Touch ID and no 3D touch capability), it's built well, fluid usage-wise even on latest iOS, battery life is good due to less demanding hardware, and an overall great experience for the current price. Android is a different value proposition altogether and best not compared.

Need help from knowledgeable folks here on a situation I'm in.

I have a iPhone 6S which was bought 2nd hand in Swappa (like eBay) in the US. It was bought carrier locked from Sprint and was unlocked by the original owner. After I bought it, it worked without issues in AT&T/T-Mobile in the US and in Airtel/Jio here in India after I moved here without any problem.

Here comes the issue. Couple of weeks back, disappointed with the constant battery drain, reset the phone using 'Erase all content and settings' option aka nuclear factory reset. I have done this in countless of carrier bought Android and WP phones without any issue. But doing this in an iPhone apparently takes the phone back to literally factory settings i.e. locked back to Sprint which I was blissfully unaware.

Now, the phone won't take any SIM cards (says 'SIM Not Valid') and won't get past the activation screen. I have talked to Apple India and US and they were unhelpful and passed the buck on to Sprint. The one interaction with Sprint went nowhere as I have never used Sprint when I was in the US and they wouldn't proceed without me being at least a past customer.

Where can I go from here? Based on all the research I have done, it's Sprint who has to mark the phone as paid off and unlocked so the activation servers pass the check. But they won't hear me and I'm here in India. Anyone have been in similar situation like this before?

Your best bet is to convince the original carrier, they usually agree to unlock out-of-contract phones for free or a small fee. If that isn't working out, there are third-party unlocking services like this one that cost anywhere between 20-40 USD to unlock a carrier-locked iDevice. No first hand experience so do your research before spending cash.
