The Best in the Market is Prestolite...! Worked for 3 years and can take a lot of loads..! costs around 7500 after exchange.

Inva-tublar, if you need long long life...!

Sukam or Amaron Sealed Batteries- No fumes No Gas...Only too expensive and low resale exchange.

Amco 180Ah for Rs. 7600

I am using Amco 180 Ah battery for 800VA Sukam inverter for last 1 year and 6 months. Till now there is no problem.

It costed me around Rs. 7800. Remember Ah rating is very much important when you are buying new battery. Dealers will try to convince you for 110, 120, 140 or 160 Ah. But 180 Ah is good deal and have long back up time.

Only thing is that you have to keep vigil on Water level in battery and topup when required for prolonged battery life. Never ever plates should be exposed outside of water.

@anuj , what are you running on the inverter and how long will the complete charge last .
How is the inverter itself ?

BTW 180 AH for 7800 only ? are you sure ? what is the warranty on the battery ? .Why I am asking is that presolite ,sukam or other batteries even for 100 AH will cost ~8000 rs .

Picked up Exide EL+ series (http://www.exide4u.com/exide/images/pdf/ups_el+.pdf) a few days back. 5 yrs All India replacement warranty! Gives real peace of mind. But expensive, had to pay 14k (with bill) for a 130AH battery. Note that the AH rating also has a discharge rate spec attached to it. This is a C10 130AH. This would be equivalent to 165AH C20 battery (150AH C20 battery is equivalent to 120AH C10 for most batteries). Most of the low cost batteries have their capacities mentioned at C20.
I hear that the Inva Tubular series is also good. Costs about 11k for 150AH C20 battery, 2.5 yrs warranty. Still went for EL+ for the warranty it offers. Wanted to make sure that I don't spend any money on batteries for a long time to come.

Sounds good, the PDF says that normal battery life is 8-10 years... and refilling between 6-9 months...
Was this the MRP of the negotiated price?

What does C10 & C20 refer to and what's the benefit?

My inverter runs 3 tubelights, 2 fans,1 CFL. Backup is all depend upon how much load you give to inverter. For me it lasts with above load 4 - 5 hours. But with 2 fans and one night lamp it lasts 8 hours nearly.

One best thing I found in Sukam inverter is its charging capacity. It quickly charges battery even in Low Charging mode. Although it has one HC mode (High charging mode) I never used that. Also it has Inverter mode and UPS mode. UPS mode is suitable for music system, PC etc. Last, it is sine wave so no strain on coiled applicances like fan. Also inverter size is very small compared to others.

Regarding battery price, I got some extra discount from Amco because I know one Amco employee. I am using above setup for around 1 year 9 months no problem at all. Only once is 6 month I check battery water level and top up with good distilled water. Even I got discount in inverter as one of my friend was in marketing division of Sukam inverter. He arranged one inverter for me in dealer price.

Warranty on battery was 18 months.

This is the negotiated price. MRP is about 17k+.
C10 is the available capacity of the battery when discharged over 10 hrs. C20 = 20Hrs. So, the more quickly you drain the battery, the lesser the capacity you get.

Guys, the battery of my inverter has conked out. The inverter is Usha Zentra, will run 4 Tubes + 4 Fans + 1 TV (full load ) for about 3.5 hours. It came with a Prestolite 15000 battery that went kaput when just 10 days remained of the 18 month warranty. Got a free replacement of Prestolite 12000 battery (since 15000 was out of stock) last september, and exactly one year later, this one too is on the blink! I was checking and topping up water for both batteries myself, once in 30 - 40 days regularly.

Please suggest what brand I should go for. I want a long life battery with max warranty, and I don't mind the chore of checking water level once a month.

Amaron!! Have been using Amaron Shield since last 4.5 - 5 years! Still going good. Base Terminal could also be worth considering... esp. if cheaper and if it has an attractive warranty period.

Just remember that you may get low maintenance batteries but not Maintenance free batteries. This sort of operation from deep discharge to full charge will always require some maintenance
