If it had two small cups, I could use that as a very neat pen stand for my desk.

symbian going open source is great news for nokia fanboys like me, but the problem is, I'm also a massive google fanboy, so my ideal phone would be a nokia phone running android

Hey great news, but really disappointed with the hardware. I was praying all the scoop shots would turn fake and HTC to launch a sleek handset.

I would wait for Android to evolve to next version and also handset makers to bring in better handsets, before i consider.

With Symbin+Android Source being available, it might be a matter of time.

Dont think it would be as easy as that. All the libraries for each platform have to be sorted out properly, then ported to the other platform. There is a lot of work to be done.

I am talking about a slightly different scenario. With Symbian source, boot sequence and other hardware details of series 60 phone should be revealed.

That would make job of porting Android to S60 phones easier.

Oh man, major bad news:

No PC syncing. I get it. Google (NSDQ: GOOG) believes in the cloud, and nowhere is that more evident than with the G1. There is no desktop syncing client available for the G1. That means if you want to sync your contacts, calendars, etc., you have to do it all through the Internet. While this functionality is a large part of the G1's premise, there are those who are going to want to have more control and sync directly from their computer.

Hope they sort it out with next version!

I think Google are playing a long game here. They know that one of the next big things is Internet browsing on mobile phones(I know its already there but there are all kinds of restrictions like speed, download capacity etc).

Their business model is revenue from online adverts and this is the main reason why the G1 is so internet focussed. I don't feel it would do that well in short term. But with updates and newer versions, there is a high probability that this would work well.

Having said that, I am still eagerly waiting for the X1. I have been waiting for a good SE smartphone since the P910i! Hope this time SE don't disappoint!

Nice!! So now not only does Google know what I search for in the Internet & who I email, they also know who I talk to & what their phone numbers/emails/addresses are!! Cool!!

Am I the only one being paranoid here?

Actually its not a bad news at all. The problem here is that the reviewers are looking at it as just another phone, and hence cribbing this and that. Whereas Google looks at it as another step towards linking the world through software. Remember Android is the software portion of it and it is Open Source. Not a familiar concept in the phone world but then that is it.

Open source may very well mean that there will be scores of community versions and even release ones (for really promising ones) where you may find all that you are looking for. Why, even you can open the code and start extending it. So add that capability if it is not there. I am sure lot of Open Source guys are rubbing their palms in glee. Lot to look forward to you see.
