@aka_iitd, there is one in indranagar 100ft road, its above the food world. You can also call HP india at 080-30306363.

Try using the F11 emergency recovery on the laptop, you should get that option when you power ON the laptop.

Let me know if you need anything else?

While browsing over, somehow i landed up at a website which was very good in keeping up service center information of almost every re-known electronic gadget.

Service Center Info - Product Service Centers details available 24 x 7 - Worth a visit !!

Here is the phone no of HP service center at Jayanagar,080-26642334/5 08032514660.
Recently got my Laptop's Fan and Heat sink replaced there (and had to shell out 5k for that:-( ). It's near Ramakrishna Hospital.

What was the exact problem you had, was it something like the machine refuses to boot even to the BIOS screen no matter booting from Recovery Disk or normally and just hangs there with a black screen? I had this problem and was solved by taking out the battery and putting it back

Try this one. These guys are decent.
Also, to avoid customer (dis)service, get a linux boot CD(like ubuntu). That way, you should be able to get into the recovery screen.

My laptop was not booting ans showing mouse pointer on black screen. When i used the recovery DVD which i ordered with the product(I paid $20) the matter became more worse as that CD didn't had full software to bring into factory install mode.
HP Service center reinstalled it now working fine. Need to make a recovery DVD on my own. Will do this weekend

if you register at the ubuntu site , they'll send you one for free. might take a lot of time though. another option would be to contact your local Linux user group ( LUG) . they should be happy to help out

else just download it from the net

i do not know about other hp laptops, but with the dv9600 series of laptops, ubuntu has issues with the broadcom chipset, installation itself would hang.
i have tried mandriva and pclinux too on my laptop, finally settled for suse linux, working well for last couple of months. all these were downloaded as iso images and burned into bootable cd.
getting the wlan to work with the broadcom bcm43xx chipset is a pain, may need some amount of rnd good luck to you!
