hi tsk,

do you know any methods in which you can record your track with time distance log? lets say you travel between point A to point D traversing point B and C. At the end of your trip, from the the track log I need to know when I was at point B, the distance between A and B, and also similarly for C and D.

What software, what format is this done. NoniGPs gives a track log, converted to Kml shows only the track, but no distance time data.

Any ideas...

Can you convert the nonigps log to gpx and post a small snippet here. I am sure it does track logging with time stamps and altitude information.

will do that by night once I get home.

Since i travel around, mostly the logging is done by hand for the points and time and distance from the odo. Just wanted to go for easy solutions. I am lazy

I looked at the track points
They have
1. Lat Lon
2. Speed
3. Elevation
4. Timestamp

All that you need. Infact you can go to gpsvisualizer and create a "profile" w.rt speed, altitude etc.,

But distance between two locations how do you find?

Distance between two locations.. I could not get your question.
You have two coordinates (lat1,lon1) and (lat2,lon2), any software including google earth allows you to draw placemarks, and then use the ruler tool to measure distance.
In nonigps view, you can set a waypoint at lat, lon, and then simply "Navigate" to the point. It will show you ETA/Distance as crow flies etc.,

I wanted to avaoid the work on the PC.
Lets say Point A is x,y
Point B is x1, y1. I had travelled 5 kms to reach point B by the route I took from point A.

So basically I am looking for solution like
Point A, (x,y), Timestamp, Distance from start (0).
Point B, (x1,y1), Timestamp, Distance from start (5km).
etc.. and on.

The total distance travelled is logged by these logs, how do i get these intermediate distances?

I can find the points from the lat, lon on the maps.

Any pointers??

Well if you have a gpx log, that will have just lat lon and timestamp. You need some kind of software to calculate the distances, like gps trackmaker etc.,
I am sure there will be some windows CE or mobile apps to do this kind of computation.
I have not really used any software for such purpose.. so no idea!

Got it!

You can calculate like this the distance between two points in Lat, Lon
Point A (A,B)
Point B (C,D)

DISTANCE=3963.1*ARCOS[SIN(A)SIN(C)+COS(A)COS(C)COS(B-D)]

This gives you quite an approximation to live with.

I think you can. You would need Sygic as the software for the GPS and buy MMI maps for Sygic and use it on the device
