it only has GPRS/EDGE.

Can you not flash a new radio rom which will make it 3G ? I doubt they changed hardware just for the indian market. Takes 5 minutes to flash a new radio rom.

Have been using gmaps on E63 for a while.
While pointing my location is a little erroneous(owing to towers spacing issues from operator)

How do you point to your location w/o GPS?
manually?

Dont think so, chips are different as far as i know. If its firmware why should they bother in the first place.

Some kind of location can also be determined using the mobile network, though not very accurate but still usable for the purpose.

Sony Ericsson T 700. Style, style, style. 3.2 MP cam, decent music (but squeaky external speaker), 3G, wow-ish screen, less than 11k.

Today I had the opportunity to use a terrific new handset for a while.

Its the Acer DX900 (yes, Acer!), a Dual-SIM, Windows Mobile, 3G Pocket PC Phone with GPS and all other extras including a very competent 3 mp camera that can take pics from BOTH cameras.

It didnt have a fancy touch interface, making do with the regular (and functional) Windows Mobile touch interface, but the kind of functionality it packs into a Rs.20k (approx) handset is amazing. Truly VFM!

All it lacks is a keyboard.

The device is manufactured by Eten but sold by Acer, hence the branding.

Meanwhile we're all waiting eagerly to get our hands on the much vaunted HTC Touch Pro II. Smartphone prices seem to have come down !

3G phones require a WCDMA chip which is in addition to the regular GSM radios. These chips cost a decent sum so yes skipping the chip to make the phone cheaper in a non-3G market like India does make sense.

No you cannot flash a ROM and get 3G.

Steer, I have heard about this phone before. But isnt the 3G only on one Sim? and heard that the battery drains fast even without 3G/GPS! Any ideas?

Hi guys,
I am currently thinking of buying a new LG cookie (KP 500) mobile with TS.
I have been a Nokia user all my life and am a little apprehensive about buying a LG product.
I have the foll conditions which i hope the LG can deliver.
1--User Friendly
2--Decent battery life
3--Durable and long life of the product(atleast 3 years)
4--Trouble free from bugs etc.Easy connectivity to PC.
5--Hassle free Availablity of spare battery,acessories (charger) etc at nominal prices.
So considering these factors and the fact that i have never owned a LG mobile,can anyone please guide me if i can go ahead with my purchase ofthe mobile.
please:

thanks

Does anyone have any idea about prices of the Htc touch3g, Touch Viva, Touch diamond. I'm looking for a phone with wifi and gps, 3g is not a must and a touchscreen would be welcome. Don't suggest the e71 or the omnia. The former is too business for me and the latter i haven't read great stuff about. Thanks

sukrit,

Unles samsung have ironed out the gps problems with the omnia I would stick well clear. I had one for a while and hated it, in the end swapped for a HTC HD which is a much better WM phone than the Omnia.

Thankyou bigman though if you read my post again u'll see i've already decided against the omnia. My question still remains open; Prices of the above mentioned htc models, delhi

Touch --> Rs.15,000
Touch Diamond --> Rs.19,990
Touch 3G --> Rs.20,000

Would suggest the Diamond :)

What is the difference between Touch and Touch Viva? Looks and specs seem identical.

Touch viva has cheap quality plastics, is thicker and longer. The screen is embedded in the body and not flush. The screen is now plastic as compared to hard glass on the old touch to reduce costs.

Basically the old Touch was a premium handset. As it got older it turned out to be good vfm touch screen phone. It had excellent soft touch plastics, a hard glass screen and was perfect in size. To reduce costs further and make it more affordable they launched the Touch viva.
