Guys is the E61 still available? Also this there any other difference between it and E61i apart from the camera? i prefer the E61's look over the E61i.

Also how good is the E51 compared to E61?

Oh.. that means features like the zoom in zoom out feature of iPhone (by Sliding 2 finger inwards or outwards) doesn't work with 5800.
Also, are free maps available for it to use with GPS?

yes you are correct , the touch UI is not that advanced.
Maps / GPS License is free for 90 days (drive and walk)

I again went on a price hunt today but the least i found was 18.5k. I am sorry but can you pls tell the area where MS Ramaiah hospital Nokia priority store is? I am relatively new to Bangalore.

um if u know new BEL road..u keep going past the hospital and look for it on the right side, its not too hard to spot. I'll warn u..this price was announced last week..it may have gone back up to the original price.

I was in a hurry to catch the elevator (in office) and in the process the phone flew off from my hand and hit the opposite wall and then bounced off to the granite floring some 5ft below.:Shockked:
My heart skipped a beat. I expected the worst like broken lcd or atleast a broken panel.
But thank God, its Nokia .
Though not made with a steel casing like its big brother, the plastic used is as good ias t can be.
Usually atleast the battery comes off,I expected so. But,in this case the phone held to itself like a rock.
I picked up the phone and was relieved to find it working as it was before.E63 survived the fall without even a single scratch.

Short term user review of Nokia E63:
1.)Ergonomics:
Form factor is quite good as this easily slips into any pocket (of men). All the keys(buttons) have got good tactile feedback.The 5 way navi key is easy to use and 4 customizable buttons are properly placed.
But , the QWERTY keypad is so cramped that, after just an hour of usage(mail and browsing) I am left with an aching thumb. Separated keys like in E61 series could have been much better but then form factor might not permit.Though keys themselves are pleasure to use,the cramped layout will hurt your fingers(more so if one has got more than average sized fingers-which is the case with many who may use this.)
Having no volume rocker keys or other dedicated keys is not a major drawback.
One handed operation is possible but not for long , as it will hurt your thumb faster.
B.T.W, the flashlight functionality came handy many a times.

2.)The call and signal quality:
Best of the lot, I would say. I live in a location where (due to crowded buildings) catching cell signal inside the house is a dream.
I had tried a few Nokia and Samsung phones (6630,E250,N95 to be specific) previously.Even at spots where other phones showed just 1 point of signal,E63 could manage atleast two more additional points.It offered atleast one point of connectivity where others were hopeless.
The sound clarity from earpiece is good.
However the speaker could be louder.It is barely audible in traffic chaos.(With 3.5mm connector on board , better keep normal earphones handy all the time).

3.)Wi-Fi:
Wi-Fi performance is top notch.It even picked up signal where both of my notebooks failed to catch up.
Even the ease of getting connected is also the best experience so far, among all gadgets. Mobile Windows wi-fi activation and connection was a pain(IMHO). Even on laptops, Xp sometimes faltered with my frequent shifting from one hotspot to another.But S60 v3 wi-fi interface is superb.
A small glitch is that sometimes,the interface defines duplicate access points for the same hotspot.This will not affect any functionality but when you have to choose a hotspot,though there is just one available, you might be greeted with two or more :).Duplicates can be removed from settings manager.

4.)Browser:
The S60 browser is based on webkit platform(same as Apple Safari browser). Browser is able to render almost all the pages of WWW(even handles ftp and https protocols).Rendering is similar to what you see on desktop(no fitting to mobile screen though). So, to be able to see the entire page one has to scroll up,down,left and right (and your thumb will not like it).
Except that , the browser capabilities are quite above any other current mobile genre of browsers. Internet explorer mobile,Opera and Netfront fails at rendering pages with complex frames. But S60 browser can handle that with ease.
However even this browser can’t handle complex tables such as those found in certain banking and financial websites.Though the browser can play all flash animations(even Youtube videos), interactive flash apps are not always compatible.

5.)Office Apps:
Recognizes and edits excel,word and .ppt/.pps. But one cannot play slideshows of .pps directly (I still wonder if there is some hidden trick for this.).
Owing to good screen and resolution, reading pdf is quite manageable( with onboard adobe pdf).Didn’t check if pdf reader supports all formats of pdf files like encrypted ones.
The zip manager is quite handy .Onboard dictionary supports English-to-English and other languages are downloadable.With on board speech assistant,one can hear the pronunciation of the words in the dictionary.
There is an active notes application and a normal notes app too. I don’t understand the difference between two,but what I create in one is not read by another.

6.)Connectivity settings:
To set up an email box ,phone asks for user id(in …@..com format) and password. It automatically recongises the email provider and selects appropriate settings.All this in a jiffy.The operator settings are also set with out any manual intervention.
Especially the email functionality is quite pleasing. Display notifications are shown on the standby screen for new message,mail or missed calls.
One can let the phone read out the email message ,handy at times.

7.)Audio quality:
Honestly I didn’t expect much from E series phones in this aspect. But this phone pleasantly surprised me with rich bass beat , wide and crisp range and loudness too. But all that when you listen through a good headphones only. Speaker ,as I already commented, is not upto the mark.
The music player can list songs by album,artist,most played,recently played etc.,. Album cover art is not supported. I didn’t check all the formats of audio mentioned in the manual .But given that it is S60 based, one should be able to find appropriate player software for any format of choice.

8.)Video:
Plays upto VGA resolution smoothly.Didn’t support .wmv out of the box.Didn’t test with rmvb too.However , players are available for any format.

9.)Battery life:
This should be yet another USP of this device. With the massive 1500 mAh Li-Po battery ,no mattery how heavily you use,it will last atleast 8-10 hrs of continuous usage.
In office with the phone always either on WLAN or on Edge network, I get atleast a full day of usage on single charge.

10.) Build quality:
It’s a Nokia and it lives upto its reputation. I had already thrashed it (accidentally) and not a single scratch nor any mal-functionality.
Though made of plastic, its of high quality build that will last (probably until you get bored and decide to move on :) ).
Btw, External GPS could be connected through bluetooth (nokia maps is pre-installed) else google maps will do for general purposes.
So, finally, except for the cramped key pad there is nothing else that should prevent one from going away from this phone ,at this price point.
Excellent UI and Excellent performance (and Excellent VFM too.)

Addendum:
a.) The FM radio doesn't work in offline mode,however bluetooth and Wi-Fi does. That's something which puzzles me.I wish nokia will take care of this in next firmware update.
b.)The extra 'Ctrl' key is of not much use except for copying and pasting,instead spacebar could be longer.
c.)Pressing call end buttons sometimes closes the running application and , sometimes hides them in background.(Ideally it should always push the app into background.) This , again might be a bug in firmware.
d.)The phone doesn't charge from PC USB connection,like any other nokia.But why couldn't Nokia provide that?

The review is from the perspective of having prior experience with other S60 devices only.I never owned any Windows mobile device.Any comparison with Windows UI is from what I had experienced on my freinds mobiles.

@deetee, nice review! Good to know the phone survived the fall without any problems.

The call-end buttons always close open apps, in my experience. Maybe the newer version of the SW has some changes.

AFAIK, the Nokia E75 is the first Nokia to charge from USB. I don't think any of the others charge from USB. It is indeed a nice facility to have, though.

Video: It is best to stick with the native MP4 format for video playback. There are players like CorePlayer and DivX player available for the other formats, but they do not give as smooth playback as the native RealPlayer.

Notes vs. Active Notes: Active Notes lets you embed images & videos into a note (with text). Very handy when you want to (for example) snap a photo of something and write down a note about something in/about the photo. Just write the note in Active Notes and embed the image onto it. For regular notetaking, I personally prefer the good old "Notes" :)

Browser: Do try Opera Mobile also. In the case of most websites, Opera Mobile renders the pages much faster.

Has anyone used the LG10000 series phone which comes via Reliance ?

Please suggest a phone according to the following requirements:
1. Excellent Video camera
2. Slide Phone
3. Budget 15K
4. Bit bigger than the usual slide phones on the length (I use Nokia 2680 which I feel is too short) of around 140 to 150mm when open.
5. Expandable memory
6. Though not a requirement, it would be nice if it is dual-sim(both gsm) phone.
7. Opera Compatible.

dilemma here:

My N81 (fantastic phone, poor camera) just broke on me.
I am looking for a replacement. I am quite tech savvy, NEED something sturdy (the N81 was good but the slide broke off), have a budget.
My shortlist:

Nokia E63
Nokia E51
Nokia 6300 (I know its old, but its cheap and sturdy!)

I have shortlisted the E63, but the thought of getting a Blackberry struck me.
Now, this is where I need help:

- The E63 is a good phone, well built, has everything I want barring a camera and GPS which I will never use.
Advantages are that it can be customized easily.

Now I want to go for this phone, but given that I need to download word/excel docs at time and that I like internet access, I had a few questions, Mainly in comparison to the Blackberry:
- Can I set up my email box, which will notify me if I get an email? Also, can I set up multiple emails?
- Can I download and see attachments from my email?

What added features does the blackberry curve/bold offer over this phone?
I prefer Nokia's for their UI, build quality, and since I am studyin and getting a job hopefully soon, I need a good corporate/personal phone that would let me access documents, mail, internet like the blackberry does. Does the E63 fit?

I do not need BBM as yet as I find it cheaper and more convenient to text.

I'll get straight to the point of the this thread, which is that i need some advise in buying a new phone.
Now before gimme random models, here is a bit of a history of my query... I am currently using a Moto MING A1200. This has served me for last 2.5years but now age is catching up with it. I dont wanna waste any money in servicing it and i have no time for it. Now i love this phone and hence the long service life, but there are some compromises i've lived with. Firstly I cant operate it with one hand too well, i cant open the flip, or type a message etc with one hand (partly bcos i bite nails and have thick fingersstupid:). Next is the problem with the loud-speaker which is just not loud enough. Then there is a medocre camera in video mode and absence of flash, lack of easy customisation (besides the wallpaper,tones offcource) etc..etc..
So here is what i'm looking for in the feature set:
1. Decent camera with 3 or more megapix (5 prefered) with a good flash for both stills and videos (Love clicking snaps of family and cars :) )
2. A Full-Qwerty, Semi-Qwerty or whatever (like Perls and P1i) or a 3x4 Keypad. I'm now annoyed with a lack of one.
3. Preferably GPS in built in the phone.
4. Good sound quality both on loudspeakers and headphones (3.5mm jack would be exellent)
5. Good display (not too big yet clear and sharp) with lots of easily customisable themes etc.

Now i know there a plenty of models that you may think fit the bill for me, but my biggest constraint is the BILL. My Budget is 15k only and no more.SO you may have guessed, I need realy VFM.

Well friends, I know I will get the answer from T-BHP its just the matter of time.
