I have Tata Play as parents still use it.
Here is what I have currently
From TV's HDMI arc to JBL's HDMI arc
From TATA Play's HDMI port to TV's HDMI port.
Is this correct? or Should I connect TATA play's wire to 2nd port of JBL?
I will switch to Passthrough and see, currently its set on Auto. |
I would suggest route the TATA Play through Soundbar & also switch to passthrough the TV.

Please figure out which is the eARC port of your C9 and connect that to the bar. Mine is a C8 and it didn't have eARC, so i have put the firestick on my sound bar which has 4k pass through.
Youtube audio experience has generally been underwhelming compared to OTT dolby stuff.

Don’t suppose this will work without HDMI ARC or eARC on the TV?

Hi Gannu
You're right , the TV needs to have ARC/eARC to make this work

Yep just tested. No output on the display. I have a 14 year old Samsung display so was wondering if there was any way to get the Atmos to work.
I picked up the JBL Bar 500 during this sale. :D

There are splitters that separate video and audio available on Amazon. They need their own power supply through USB. But you need both audio and video to come out of different HDMI ports ? In that case HDMI splitter would work ?
Buying a new Home Theater - Sony vs Mivi vs zebronics
Since I am not getting my present Home theater set up (Sony Blu-ray Disc/DVD Home Theater 5.1, BDV-E870) fully working (only 3.1 channel audio working now), I think it is time to go for a new one instead of wasting more money on this old (14 years) set up. Already spent a lot of time and money (purchasing HDMI splitter, Audio Extractor, Amazon Fire stick 4K, optical Toslink to mini-Toslink adapter etc.) thinking I can get 5.1 channel audio out of my existing system.
So, it's time to look out for a new set up:
Presently, I am not in favor of buying premium products, instead go for budget set up.
I have searched and found a couple of HT's which are:
Sony HT-S40R - 600W, comes with Blue tooth and USB connectivity, HDMI, Optical, Dolby Audio
4-year-old model, and Amazon price Rs.23,999
Mivi Fort Q700D - 700W BT 5.3 BT, Dolby, Coaxial, Optical, HDMI Arc, USB, BT.
Company price - Rs.11,999
Mivi Fort H880 - 880w, 5.2ch, 5.3v BT, HDMI (no Arc), USB, Optical, Coaxial, Dolby
Company price - Rs.15,999
Zebronics 9550 pro - 625w, 5.2, wireless sub, HDMI eArc, Optical, Dual Wireless Rear Satellites, 5.3v BT, Aux, USB
Company price: Rs.24,999
Zebronics 9900 - 725w, 5.2.4, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Audio, DTS, 5.3 BT, HDMI eArc, Optical, Aux, USB.
Company Price: Rs.32,999
I have not searched any product from LG or Samsung. Mivi brand is an Indian company and there are many good reviews about their product.
Any suggestions, guys!
Hi @ nairrk
I have been using the Sony HT S40 R for 6 months now. Very good quality, has all the required functions. I watch the odd movie on Netflix or Prime and I am very happy with the quality of sound. Similarly audio quality of Amazon music is also pretty decent.
Cheers

I have the same back in India, the sound quality is decent, worth for the money.
After years of eyeing the JBL 5.1 soundbar with the detachable satellite speakers, finally picked up the Bar 9.1 under 50k.
I don't like wires hanging around and hence found this ideal for my use. Dolby Atmos and DD+ content sound really good on this and the satellites though battery powered are able to perform quite nicely.
Am yet to test out the battery life but overall a very good deal. Think the Bar 9.1 is being replaced by the Bar 800 and hence the discounts before it is phased out.

That's awesome deal you got on JBL Bar 9.1. Please share the source from where you got it. I have Q990B as my primary but might consider it for one of the other rooms.
Please also share your review including battery life once you check it.

Thanks, however, after checking I found that this one (Sony HT S40 R) has no HDMI IN. I prefer to buy a soundbar with at least one HDMI IN and HDMI Arc out port.
My old TV (Samsung LCD FULL HD) does not have an HDMI Arc port as such I want to connect the Fire stick direct to Soundbar's HDMI IN port and HDMI Arc out to TV HDMI IN port enable get 5.1 channel audio.
There is a HDMI port (eARC) and it comes with a Sony branded HDMI cable too. I suggest you re read the specifications. If there was no HDMI I would not have purchased the equipment.
Cheers

It actually came at this price during the Amazon sale for a few days. With a no cost EMI you could get it for 42k actually ! Since I had no plans at the time it took me a few days to decide by when it was out of stock and then never went below 65k.
Finally got it at 50k via a friend who works at JBL / Harman via their employee discount route.
Keep checking Amazon, it might just come back during the Diwali sale.

You mean to say it has both HDMI IN and HDMI Arc OUT ports?
Maybe the specifications details which I have seen may be wrong?
