Yup BSNL has the best iPad plan.
And boy oh boy this device is more addictive than I thought, 2nd consecutive day with this super light and thin gadget in hand and am kinda sold for personal use. The weight difference make a big difference, guess Steve was right.

Is it after tax or before, iPad tax was around 67-70$ when my wife bought it from US. This is beyond the apple price. |
Jaggu, My Cousin said that he can get one tax free for me and it will only cost me what is given on the apple site.
I remember he also got my notebook tax free last year.

I finally got my iPad (not iPad2) working with BSNL 3G. ...I have taken the Rs.599/30days pre-paid plan with 6GB download limit. |
You also get 1G/month free for 6 months with activation. Infact, I am using that only and haven't re-charged any amount as yet. Wanted to check the 1GB experience first and then recharge for 599 :-)
So, you should get 6GB + 1GB for your 599.
I have observed that at times when 3G is not available (for whatever reasons) it defaults to 'E' and the speed slows down.
First lot of iPad 2 already sold out!
Will take some time for next batch to come in.

Thanks for the tip regarding 1G/Month free - I did not know that. I am assuming the 'E' that is shown when 3G is not available is EDGE on 2G. Another thing I observed is that even on 3G the speed seem to vary a lot. Right now, I am trying to download an app that is 17MB. It is taking more than 10mins to download. But on some other days, larger downloads have completed in much less time.

It was very convenient that BSNL gave a microsim, and it is really interesting to know that BSNL has an iPad plan. I have taken the Rs.599/30days pre-paid plan with 6GB download limit. |
Congratulations !!!! I have been using iPad + bank 3G for over 3 months now, while in station it works great, but out of city limits it's a pain as 3G is limited to certain limits, am hoping the other taints will change this.
Any idea when team-bhp is releasing iPad app ?

Apple products come with Int'l warranty. Since the iPad 2 has been officially launched in India, you can buy one from the US and avail the warranty benefits even in India.
Checked the iPad 2 last weekend. It is definitely lighter and much sleeker. The white iPad 2 looks stunning. Didn't really find the speed to be much faster than the iPad 1 after some casual usage. As anticipated, it was out of stock and expected to take 2-5 weeks depending on the variant you book. Croma takes full advance at the time of booking.
Hi Members,
I have some questions for the iPad owners. I hope you folks can help. I'm considering getting one [iPad 2] sometime later this year by an immediate friend is planning to purchase soon.
Can the iPad be a good replacement for a regular laptop? I know it cannot store huge volumes of data not access CD/DVD etc, but can it do any of the following, like:
- access USB
- load softwares like adobe lightroom
- access open office or ms office
- other softwares which can be installed on a regular windows laptop
Sorry if these Qs seem too dumb. Bus i'd like to see if I can do away with a laptop. It would also be very useful for the wife as carrying it will be extremely light, compared to a regular laptop [14"]. Also, I've understood that with iPad 2, we can install and use skype on it. Is this correct?
Cheers
aK

Probably not , yes it can do many jobs including handling office applications but cannot be a replacement but maybe no ones wants to replace - its just an addition for doing so many things much easier than laptop - wonderful ever-growing apps , music , books , Imagine benefits while travelling - no need to look for chargers - battery lasts for 10 Hours now , internet is much faster - I don't know why maybe its is better optimised for 3G. Yes it not only has SKYPE but also FACE TIME and I can tell you , if you buy only one in your home you are going to have fights ... go get it fast before these stocks out ( still available in few shops !)

USB- No
Lightroom- Use apple app instead
Open office- Have not tried it, but google docs works
Other software- Tons of app
Will it replace a laptop completely? Right now, No. But will most of the stuff you want to do sitting at home and while relaxing :)

Thank you Turbanator; Jaggu.
I went to Croma on the way back to home from office and checked out the iPad 2. First thing that struck me was that it is smaller than it is made out to be in the websites and virtual ads. The device is nice and quick. Closing and moving between apps was speedy.
I've read on this forum [probably this thread or elsewhere] that we cannot download songs/files from the web to the iPad. Did I read wrong?
There is no USB support, but can the iPad connected to other external hard disk drives via adapter cable?
This probably is not the right thread to ask, so apologies for asking, but I need to know. Is NotionInk's Adam superior and better than the iPad?
Btw, my friend who wanted to get the iPad asap [craze, that all. no real need :p] has already ordered one in the US and has asked his friend to get it when he'z back to Blore [told me he got the 32gb wifi+3G]..
I'm in no hurry, so I want to be sure which of the two [iPad 2 and Adam] is better [other thought running in my mind is to get iPad 2 for the wife and Adam for myself ;) ].
Silly world, this!!

No you cant download songs directly nor can you connect a disc directly. iPad has its quirks, but nothing comes close when it comes to the UI and ease of use, atleast of the things that it supports. Set your expectations very clear, otherwise you will be disappointed.
Regarding your query on Adam
Notion Ink Adam review -- Engadget
You can connect iPad to computer using iTunes and then do lot of things , as far as songs are concerned u can synch with iTunes or use any of aps to listen or view

iPad is a good for data consumption. And is extremely portable. But for data generation, still laptops & desktops hold the forte. True, you can get a bluetooth keyboard for iPad and then its as good as a laptop. But then you will compromise portability to an extent.
By USB I guess you mean pen drive. Yes its possible (with hack) via Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit. This costs $29.

Skype doesn't have an app for iPad. Skype iPhone app works for iPad. In fact even Facebook doesn't have an app for iPad. iPhone version works for iPad.
Thanks gentlemen for your inputs.
Yes, Jaggu. I've come to understand this device now and what it can/cannot do.. Thanks for the help.
