If you cannot take one bit of lag, go for pure android phones. Example -
Nexus 4, 5
Moto X, G
S4 play edition

It's Samsung's touch wiz ui and HTC sense that introduces lag. the latest version of Stock android is fast and peppy even on an S3. :-)

And as you would have guessed - one month of the S3 has convinced me that either I will pony up $550 for the not-so-latest iOS iteration the next time, OR I will buy a Winphone (like the lovely 820/920). I am so done with the whole android hype. For a once-upon-a-time flagship, the S3 is quite laggy. What a shame.

Just a datapoint. S3 that I have is now free of lags. That is after I got rid ot Touchwiz.
Fortunately, CM has made this transition "Download, Click next, Click next" kind of process.

+1. In fact, Motorola for the first time showed the guts to convey to the public that android experience is made slow by the launchers of Samsung and HTC. And that stock android is fast and peppy. This is a significant move considering that Google owns Motorola and that Samsung and HTC are important strategic partners of Google in making android a huge hit ( 81% market share globally ).

About ordering Nexus 5 from Play store - India:

Placed an order for 16GB Black version on 27Nov by 10:10 hrs. By late night got a mail from Google saying item is shipped from SG!

Right now, based on FedEX tracking info, item is in Mumbai, hoping that it will be delivered at BLR by today afternoon.

While ordering it was in "leaves warehouse in 4-5 weeks" state. Went ahead and placed the order, thinking this would anyway be the fastest way to get it. Did not think that it will be this fast!

Thanks to all members who posted details of Nexus 5.

Yaar, that is only partly true. I bought Defy ONLY because the modders had stabilized Gingerbread at a time when the company said, no Gingerbread. Even today it has a Kitkat port under *active* development. HOWEVER, I have two challenges: I LIKE the S3's GPS (fully functional even without a SIM!) and camera. As I've experienced with my chacha, sometimes CM/MIUI ROMs have stability issues with GPS/call quality and the camera quality is nowhere as good as stock.

How have your experiences been in this regard?

I'm not sure what the issue is with camera. But, I always felt the stock android camera is better than the Samsung camera app. What's the exact issue you are having with it?

About offline GPS, I'm not too sure. I don't have an S3 device near me now to test it as well.

The right comparison should be S3 vs the utterly lag-free iphone 5:

Well perhaps you think purely in terms of timeline.
If you see in terms of OS iteration and code added you would appriciate what I said.
There are just couple of OS iterations in iOS and few features added ( improved multitasking is one of them ) and that shows age on iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.

Yes, these can be iffy in custom ROMs. Have a trip coming up in weekend, will compare S3 and Nexus 4 (w.r.t. GPS / Camera) if I get time.

What I tried earlier was general performance of phone. I.e.

1. Open dialer
2. Run heavy apps (Such as Real Racing)
3. Try bringing up dialer again

In these cases, S3 got much better after getting rid of Touchwiz.

Guys one of my friends showed me his Nexus 4 that he sees some patterns on screen when screen is off. I too saw them. I read on net that the patterns are actually digitizer. Is it true? Nexus 4 owners please tell whether have you noticed this in your phone's screen also?

Any ROM so far Galaxy tab3 SM-T311 3G version?

Yes, its actually digitizer. But normally, its very hard to see those patterns. Can you notice it easily?

Did you try the swap solution ( 1gb ram sounds interesting..) search link on xda.

Yeah did actually but there was a problem and didn't have the patience to - after I tried some custom ROMs.

I tried many custom ROMs. Honestly - not impressed. Am back to stock 4.1.2 now

Moreover for US model, then warranty won't be there. So be careful

Well, no. I have not seen the phone. But I can see F150 below has now bought the phone. Hope to see his phone during the next TBHP EON meet.

I think it is about the size of your palm and fingers as well. A big phone in the hands of Amitabh Bacchan will not look very big. Remember that joke about how oranges looked like lemons from Amitabh's eyes?

I have to say that given good system resources, Android gives you flawless experience. I have seen that on my wife's Note 10.1. It runs stock 4.1.2 with all Samsung stuff pre-loaded. No lags. No freezes. The 1.4 Ghz CPU and the 2 GB RAM can handle anything.

It is kinda disappointing though, that Samsung has not updated the OS ever since the tablet was purchased early this year.

hmm. I saw many were following the "SUVI ROMs" & Microfire ones.

One thing - Most (95%) of the devs on A110 forum are desi-devs! :thumbs up

Ace.

P.S. EVERY other post is literally asking for you to press thanks
( multiple times in one post too! ) LOL. Irritating a bit.

Yeah and I really haven't dug deep into the ROMs from a technical pov but I think many are just new skins and guys sell them off as newly developed ROMs.
