I'm quite surprised to know that it has 256/278 MB RAM only? I though it was a competitor to P500. Then it should have atleast 512 MB? Can owners please confirm?

Like I said before, it has 278 MB RAM. Confirmed.
Just find the 'Task Manager' in the application list, select the tab 'RAM'.

It will show how much RAM is being used currently.
xxx MB/278 MB

Also has the option of clearing up some RAM. Maybe closes bg apps.

oh ok. Still seems pretty expensive mate, for a phone that has been out there for a long time worldwide (more than a year now since it was announced even). Im trying to decide between a Galaxy Ace, the Moto Defy, or the Desire.

^^ I was in the same boat and waiting for desire prices to fall. The wait seemed eternal. Finally picked up the Ace yesterday. Moving from 5800, theres a world of difference and am loving it!

How much did you get Ace for?

how is the UI on the Samsung? Ive heard a lot of negative press about the touchwiz thing.

Hey Guys,
any idea when the droid 2 global is getting launched in India?

I got one.
3.7" screen i think.
550 MHz procc [I've overclocked mine to 1.2 GHz without any problems.]
the only down point is the RAM. its only 256 MB....

I get about 12 hours of usage from one charge...

Dude - is it easy to overclock any Android phones processor? Does it void the warranty?

E.g. can one overclock Optimus P500 (600 Mhz processor)? If yes, upto what speed?

What benefits would it provide?

You need to root your device, and then you can use SetCPU to tweak the speed of your CPU.

@gupta_chd: I paid 15k
@CaliAtenza: My earlier phone was 5800. Compared to that, the ui is much more pleasant. Any specific points you looking after ??

Is the contact list integrated with social networks? From looking at some videos the UI seems less polished compared to motoblur or sense so I just wanted to get your opinion.

@CaliAtenza: The ui is definitely not as good looking as the sense. I feel they have tried to copy iphone almost everywhere. The keypad looks and feels the same. Even the overall form factor seems inspired. On its own, I think its a pretty well sorted ui. Cannot really comment on moto ui. Used LG optimus one for a while and the response wasn't as sharp.
The contacts list can be synced with gmail, fb.
And it groups the repeated contacts rather intelligently. Some which are missed can be done manually, here again the 'recommendations' are spot on.

@JMaruru: I am not aware of any official announcement yet.

Yes its quite simple...
as clevermax said.
Root your phone and get setcpu.

Then you sit and make CPU Performance profiles..
i don't know about the Optimus, but for my Milestone, SetCPU could overclock my phone only to 550 MHz rather than the stock 500 MHz.

I downloaded Milestone Overclock [It's designed for the Qualcomm procc that the Milestone runs on] and then i could overclock to anything i want.

Tried to overclock it to 1800 MHz, but it became unstable.
Now the phone is stable at 1200 MHz.

Google search xda developers.
Check out that forum...
lotsa geeks there :D

Benefits: Phone is faster [programs load faster, scrolling is smoother]
Disadvantages: Battery life drops [depends on the profiles you set]
Phone tends to get hotter faster.

>>>

Please recommend a business phone which is :

1. Excellent phone reception quality
2. Very intuitive
3. Has a qwerty keyboard (have no experience of a touchscreen, so don't really know if that'll suit me or not)
4. Good audio playing ability (bass)
5. Easy to download and store music clips from the net
6. Doesn't crash:)
7. Large memory ( in -phone as as well as add on for extended memory)
8. Easy internet access
9. Powerful camera with zoom

Price limit - within 25k

Regards, drive safe

Oh ok. Well if you can sync the contact list with gmail and fb, then its fine.

Thing is, a lot of the tweakers and the techy guys in the US really dislike the touchwiz ui :(, but then again they hate motoblur as well. I havent heard too much about Sense over here though. I personally really like both the Sense UI and the Motoblur, but the Desire is priced much too high for what it is, a phone that is a year old which is beaten in performance by the Moto Defy. How are the widgets on the Ace?
