Tried doing the Froyo 2.2 update on my Galaxy 3 I5801 from the link given by tsk1979
well followed the procedure to the Dot.
At the end of it my G3 is dead and it has changed its model no. to I5800 instead of I5801. Its not going beyond the I5800 startup screen.
Its under warranty will samsung be able to help?
i dont want 11.5k waste on my plate. |
Sorry to hear about that.
Its always better to stay away from this rooting/modding stuff, unless you are a Pro or have a lot of time on your hands to do research beforehand.
And in any case, Samfirmware has announced that the *official* froyo update from Samsung would arrive in March itself, so it would have been better to wait.
Now since it is dead, try posting your query on xda-forums, i am sure there must be a workaround to get this thing going.
Don't worry, and just have patience. I am sure the phone will be good again. Wishing you good luck.

Try going to Samsung Service center and they would flash your device and it wont be considered under warranty may be you have to shell some charges for flashing in software available with them.

Thanks for the link. I found another one called superoneclick. I don't know how good is that. will be trying in a couple of hours.
The android version that is firmware version is showing 2.2.its too slow. i am getting a score of only 1750 on system benchmark. the one with root use to give 1950.
I want to go tje custom roms but i am too confused which to pick and how to do it.
Thanks again. |
I consider myself tech savvy not a pro/geek and don't have the confidence/time/patience to go for a custom ROM.
If it just shows 2.2, you should be able to do it z4root , it's one click. It has been recommended in the xda forum.
Do post here if you had any luck with superoneclick.

ThinkFree Office is a nice app for this purpose. The free version opens the MS office files in read-only mode whereas the paid version allows editing as well. The app also doubles up as a file explorer and can read pdf as well as a lot of other file formats.
SGoose, Backseatdriver and sheetumanu,
Thanks guys,
Will go through the recommendations and update this thread.
Sammy has leaked the gingerbread for SGS!
Nice to see sammy supporting even after the product has been discontinued.

Jailbreaking Rooting, etc are all 'verboten', so you lose your warranty pronto, if you try these activities. They may be legal but that does not mean the vendor will honour your attempts to tinker.

Super news! So now no need to hack the device to load Gingerbread. clap:
Well done HTC!
Found this version of Galaxy S on Flipkart . Samsung Galaxy S LCD. It is the same phone as the original Galaxy S, but with an S-LCD screen instead of the S-AMOLED screen. At 19.5K, it seems like incredible value for money. It is already running Froyo and is upgradeable to Gingerbread. Also, the battery is a 1650 mAh one.

You dont really have bother too much. desire on its own is a very good phone.
19003 has watereddown spec. the proc is little inferior. esp the graphix core. It dosnt have biggest selling point of sgs, the super amoled. storage is just 4gb vs 16gb.
on the other hand, community support for desir is way better than even SGS. so dont fret too much on this.

I feel SGS for less than 20K is a steal deal, even without AMOLED. S-LCD isn't that bad after-all. I would have considered buying this if this was listed some time back. Anyway, I am very happy with the Desire - no regrets.

It wasnt listed 'sometime back' because it got released last week only. And a noteworthy point is that the launch was simultaneous in India and Germany.
