Can you look at general settings of brutmaps.
For example in androzic and oruxmaps like software, I can simply checkbox "keep display on" and display won't turn off. |
Yes there is no option in Brut mod to keep screen on while navigating, but the display should be on during navigation. Can you try clearing all data for that app and running the app again from scratch?

Tanveer, there is no option for the "display" in the Settings menu of Brut Maps. I'll check once again today.
Or else, I'll install one of these maps that you have mentioned.
How are these maps? Which one are you using ?

I'l check again today and revert. Though I think I have found a way around.
In the settings , I have selected the option for "screen on " during charging.
So if the Screen on doesn't work for navigation by itself, I'll plug in the charger and see if that works ;)
Oruxmaps and androzic use something called Mobile atlas creator to download maps.
basically, you install the Mobile atlas creator on your PC, and download any maps (Google/OVI/OSM/Yahoo/Bing) in your format of choice.
For example Oruxmaps requires sqllite db.
Androzic uses Oziexplorer and so on.
You copy these maps to your SD card software directory, and you are good to go.

Is it difficult to update the maps say for one specific region inside the offline maps stored in the db? Google maps get updated often.. if we are not updating our offline maps we won't get to see those changes right.
Simply recreate the DB on your PC.
Under oruxmaps, you can use WIFI connection to download latest maps and then cache them
Tanveer,
I heard this about the Optimus - if you are running a app while charging, the phone goes into restart mode as soon as you stop charging ? Experienced this anytime ?
Nope. I have not heard of this. I have disconnected phone while running apps and nothing happens.

Hey guys,
My w910i died and i'm on a look out for a nice phone within 15 grands, I'm also smitten by the android bug which makes me look down upon the Symbain, I came across
Samsung i5700 spicia,
SE xperia mini
nokia X6.
Among which liked the Samsung spicia untill i found out that it doesn't have FM :S, Ruled out xperia mini because of its tiny screen, X6 was also ruled out because of the 18th century symbain S60.
I was wondering if i should wait for new android phones or pick up something out there? Or should i increase my budget and buy something else?
Thanks :) |

I had the same problem with my wifey's Wave II.
Remove the memory card and try connecting it with Kies. It seems to work. This needs to be done only for the first time. Subsequently it will detect along with the memory card. |
It will not work with a Sprint Epic 4 - found the info on the web!
Tried your dodge. The same behaviour it tries to connect for ages, also cannot mount the phone on the USB it just keeps searching for drive D. So haev deleted Kies and will try again,

Check your android version - if its 2.2.1 then there is no rooting method available as of now afaik. If its 2.2, you should be able to get it from xda-developers forum I guess.

Guys, need a little help.
I have issue with the screen getting off and phone locked when running the Gmaps(Brut mod) and Navigation. |
Update: Here is what I observed with the Navigation App yesterday.
1) I have not yet subscribed to Vodafone Mobile connect. It's only basic GPRS activated on my phone. So when I initiate the Navigation App, it doesn't responds and have to Force close(doesn't matter if GPS is on)
2) I started the navigation app at home while being connected to wifi at home and also GPS on. While inside the GPS was still trying to lock with satellites, the Navigation App worked perfectly and I kept the phone like that for 10 minutes and observed the screen, it didn't turn off.
So my Question to Clevermax:
1)Have you subscribed to the data plan of your Mobile service provider and do you always keep the data connection ON ?
2) Have you tried your Navigation App without the data connection ?
My question to Tanveer:
1) Does Androzic and Oruxmap also requires the data connection for Navigation.
2) Does these maps also provide voice guided navigation ?
Thanks.

1) Yes, but I do not keep it on always. (There is a switch widget for that)
2) Yes, tried it by standing outside my house, while connected to home Wi-Fi.
All cases display was on always during navigation.
