Introducing Galaxy Nexus. Simple, beautiful, beyond smart - YouTube

Can the Android users throw some light on the usage of internal memory in Android phones ?

Most of the Android phones come with very little free internal memory (typically 350 MB).

How much of free internal memory is desirable ? What is this internal memory used for ?

I am really inclined to buy the SE Neo V, but the small internal memory is holding me back. :Frustrati

Guys, suggestions for the best android under 15k. My options are the Ace, Defy, Wildfire S, Salsa & ??. I have the Ace currently - its gets slow at times and the internal memory is a problem. The Salsa i believe also has interal memory issues. I still think the Defy is the best phone in this bracket, but this is for my mum and she's not too keen on a Moto. Any suggestions ?

As you said, Defy is still the best phone in this price range. Other Android phones <15k have poor screen resolution and very less internal memory.

What would be your Mom's typical usage ?

If you are not particular about Android OS, there are many other VFM phones loaded with features, that you can get for <15K.

She's a sony freak and wants the best camera to take pics of her 1 year old daughter. It also happens to have a brilliant spec-wise talktime@.

Ideas? Best android with decent camera?

I'm a Sony Ericsson fanboy too. :D

If camera is your priority, look no further than SE. You could also consider Neo V and Ray, depending on the budget.

Hey, im a sony fanboy too!
In fact, i know SE loses by some margin to other similar devices, but it looks so good.:thumbs up
I willingly overlook it, everytime, in the past 6 purchases.

however, one serious thought too.
Sony camera, on adroid, or anything else, is AMAZING!!
but, it is sloooooooooooooooooowwwww.
That slow.
By the time it kicks in, a lot of opportunities pass.
Just my experience

Yesterday I calibrated the battery after a full cycle charge. (Deleting batterystats.bin file in /system). This seems to be a recommended procedure after you move to a new ROM.
Now I am observing a notable improvement in battery life. Charged 100% yesterday afternoon by 3:00 and I have 41% left even now with data on all the time. Unbelievable with MIUI ROM!
After calibration, it is recommended that you discharge it fully before charging again.

Phone just died after battery drained fully. 3:00 pm from day before - that works up to almost 44 hours. A very long battery back up on MIUI :D

I have Sony Camera in mine and I agree 100%. BTW, you long 'slow' word reminds me of Nissan Sunny ad. :)

Guys,

A quick query:

Can we UNLOCK the Galaxy S2 easily here in India?

I am planing to get one form Singapore and it needs to be unlocked. After having done the google, it seems that it won't be much difficult but need a confirmation form experts.

Need a quick suggestion as my friend is waiting there for my confirmation.

EDIT: After checking few links over the internet, I've confirmed my friend to get, one even if it is LOCKED. Surprisingly, White coloured SGS2 is cheaper (1500 INR approx.) than the Black one in Singapore.

Cheers!
Irish :)

guys, I am dumb as far as Android, smartphones are concerned. I have been using just a basic dual sim phone all these years. Now, I am thinking of upgrading the phone. The basic requirements are as below

1. All basic features which you expect in a phone viz. good clarity of voice, signal reception, long battery life etc.

2. I wanted to buy a phone with good A-GPS system which will act as a navigator during driving at unknown routes - both in city as well as country side.

3. I know there are millions of other applications out there in mobile phones. But I dont have anything else in my mind as of now.

Can you give your recommendations for phones costing <15K. I was reading through earlier posts and many people have recommended Samsung galaxy Ace and Motorola Defy. i want to know if there are cheaper phones which would suit my need as they are very basic. Thanks for your help

@gopikb - Check LG Optimus One P500, cost around 8-9K.

If you can buy the Defy, go for it without researching on P500 and Ace.

Yes if you have vitamin M go for Defy (cost around 14-15K), otherwise P500 is a good choice (plus saving of around 6K).

@gopikb, go for defy in budget permits. alternate to the p500 is the xcd 35.

Wow!!! Overwhelming recommendation for the Defy. At Rs.5K more, i can afford it. Will check out the advantages of Defy and decide accordingly. Thank you so much everybody for your quick inputs

If voice clarity, signal reception, battery life and GPS are your only requirements, you may purchase a Nokia touch screen phone like 5230. It will solve the purpose at almost half the price.

But if you want to jump on the Android bandwagon, its a different matter.
