Guys,
Our fellow member Klub Class is an expert mapper in Google maps and he already has a stature in the top 100 contributors from Kerala.

clap::Cheering:Thats nice..

BTW, how do you contribute to maps..

A noob question here.

I upgraded my Galaxy S2 to XWKL1 2.3.6 (officially through KIES), which turned out to be the worst decision ever! My phone has become very unstable and apps crash now and then. The phone reboots on its own. Now, I wish to revert it to back to my old firmware (2.3.3). Is it possible?

Also, I have rooted my phone. Can it help in reverting back to 2.3.3?

AFAIK, you can log in with your google account and add to maps - like street names, shop names etc.

It is indeed possible.

You need to have the old firmware file (appx 500 MB) and PC Odin for it.

If you are rooted and have CF kernel with CWM installed then you could do it from your mobile itself. google with XDA added to the query, you will have all the required information there.

You have to find the right files from say XDA forum, put it in ODIN(Windows) and merely load the firmwares.

It should not be problem.

My advice is instead, since you are already rooted, why not try one of the custom roms.

Litening Rom 4.03 is out and it should make a good rom to start with.

Checkrom 4 and CM7 are also my favorites.

My SGS2 is currently on Checkrom and can say its one of the most stable rom.

You can login to Google Map maker and map. You can add places of interest, roads, intersections, lakes, rivers and what not. Initially your contributions will need to get approved by trusted reviewers. You cannot add private residences with personal data -like Abc's home or house name etc.

Most of the additions I do now gets published instantly... because of my good track record :D

I had mapped several small roads in my hometown using the gps tracking data from 'Google myTracks' application in my Android phone - because a detailed satellite imagery is not yet available for my location.

EDIT: CORRECTION: Klub Class is one among top 100 mappers in the world in year 2011!! :thumbs up Not only in Kerala.

^^ I use google tracks - Its amazing. Also use Maverick - Its better in certain areas

Thanks all for the replies, ( still can not use the multi quote function ).

My plan is Airtel Prepaid so I guess I can rule out the H for Hazard part , and yes I am keeping a tab on the costs.

You can log onto XDA forum and download 2.3.3 firmware and flash it. But why don't you try some other rom like I had suggested, One you taste success of that you will never ever revert back to stock rom.

And another question I wanted to ask here. I just installed Oxygen. Now looking to install CyanogenMod. But am totally unable to locate it - even on the xda forums. Yes, I see the post that mik has started there - but the links he has provided - are these the latest updates of CM7 for the P500?

All I can see are nightly builds on their own site. Are these safe to install?

I am totally looking forward to installing CM7 and use their theme changer app. Can't wait.

Have used Oxygen for a short while and CM7 extensively. Oxygen is not as smooth as CM7.

I don't know where you can find a stable CM7 for P500 but I guess Klub Class can help you.

You can find the download links and more info on CyanogenMod 7.2.0 ROM on http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1436952

Of late I'm hearing some nice things about PrefectPeso ROM. So alternatively you may have a look at PerfectPeso ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1382033

And why you switching to another ROM in a haste? Experimenting ROMs or bugs? In all probability I might be flashing PerfectPeso as my phone is on old baseband. :)

Heyy guys!!

Have you ever noticed that the latest flagship phone featured on SE Website is branded as SONY instead of SE.

Got the following mailer from Sony Ericsson regarding the same. What do you guys have to say about it?

From now on every phone from sony will come with a rootkit which will log your every move, and send it to sony. Removal of this will brick the phone
:D
I guess, after rootkitting CD buyers, sony needs to nuke its phone buyers!

SGS2 user here.

Used KL1 for over a month. Its actually a very good and stable build.

I would advise you to take backup with Kies and then clear all user data / cache using the boot menu. After that, use Kies to only restore the basic requirements... i.e. contacts, photos, notes, calendar etc.

Your phone will become better and faster than 2.3.3.

PM me if you need any help.

Same here. I have been on 2.3.6 for over a month now and it is much better than 2.3.3. The battery life has increased a lot compared to earlier too.
