Apple is suing Samsung for copying the look and feel of the iPhone on the Galaxy mobiles.
It is a sure sign that Android and Galaxy have come of age!
If you look at the actual law suit, one major objection is "rectangular shape with rounded black borders".
I think makers of our traditional "slate" or Indian etch a sketch should sue apple for copying :D

I agree thats foolish. clap:
But on the other hand, when I went to Samsung store, even I got confused, how come they are selling iPhones. It is indeed an exact copy of the iPhone
Samsung has been copying Apple lately. It has nothing to do with Android.
On the other hand, looking at the patents that are being increasingly filed by Apple (and others) you have to wonder about the Idiots who approve such patent applications.
I think it was about time, coz Samsung was probably the only player in the market that Apple hadn't sued yet. Apple is already suing HTC, Motorola and Nokia ( and they are suing Apple back too ).
Let's hope Apple doesn't enter the Television market soon. They would patent their design and then sue all the competitors for making a TV that looks like a rectangle with a power button in the middle.
whatever happened to flattery and imitation???

Same idiots who approved them for basmati, i'd presume.....
Someone comented on one such article that "apple will eventually patent the middle finger gesture and sue everyone who uses it". looks like it!!
But to be fair to apple, the shape and the icons of galaxies does look like that of ipo(a)d.
It would be interesting to see what Samsung does. Samsung does a lot of business with Apple on the microchip front, though Apple started making its own chips of late (?) Samsung's volumes to apple may beat whatever margins Samsung may manage out of Galaxies! But one thing for sure, Android has sure ignited a few sparks!
Apple has been suing left, right and centre as @Newpunter mentioned but there is a difference with all of them compared to Samsung. They are the component manufacturers of Apple iphones from its inception, needs to be seen how those would be affected now after law suit and all.
For the record, the processor of Samsung Galaxy S is the same as that of I phone 4. But have to agree Galaxy S looks similar to Apple's discontinued iPhone 3. IMO, Apple should feel flattered at its imitation because the product is already discontinued.
Apple is on a roll!! Suing everyone in their sight.
@Mr.Boss That's probably because evilshantanu has replied twice while still being on this thread.

My Samsung D820 that i bought in 2006 has the same icons and look as the touchwiz ui today. The only difference is that the look has been changed to fit the touchscreens. And how much can you change the look of a touchscreen phone with only a screen? I remember phones from O2 launched much before the Iphone looked the same.
And what about Apple copying the look of the Iphone 4 from LG Prada that was launched in 2007 ?
Not to forget the way they named Video calling as Facetime and talked as if they had invented something new ( inspite of it being limited to wifi and working only from iphone 4 to iphone 4 and other phones having video calling for nearly 4 years ).
By the way, Samsung manufactures 80% of the parts for the Iphone. I don't think that will change as the arrangement is mutually beneficial to both parties. But Apple should stop being childish and stop suing everyone who makes a phone with a touchscreen.
I agree that Apple has done a lot in revolutionizing the smartphone market, but they should stop acting like they invented smartphones and touchscreens. They just used everything that was present before and managed to package it into a very attractive phone for the end users. What if Nokia, Motorola and others start suing Apple for using the phone functionality that was certainly not invented by Apple? ( Wait a minute, I think Nokia is already suing them for the same :) )
limited portfolio, low confidence in capability of their own product.
ipad/phone/pod, are their prime breadwinners.
their whole overpriced accessories' sales depend on these!
any threats will generate these feelings of insecurity.
I havent met anyone yet who wanted to buy an iphone, and decided a samsung was better and went for it.
I love the products, but i pity the childish attempts at trying to maintain the status quo..

Jeez!!! Did I sound like supporting all this or what? I do agree with all that you say, but it was just an opinion that a few things of Galaxy S (2) do look like straight out iPod/Phone. Yeah there is little that could be done.
Apple is suing rival mobile phone maker Samsung over the design of the Galaxy line of products, which includes the ‘S’ smartphone and the ‘Tab’ tablet PC. The American lawsuit claims that Samsung is ‘slavishly’ copying Apple's iPhone and iPad designs.
Apple cites examples of patent infringement that include both core technology and aesthetics, and refers to patents issued in 2009 and 2010. Apple also claims that the arrangement of icons and packaging are similar between the Galaxy phones and the iPhone.
Earlier, however, Apple’s lawyers faced a setback when a separate, similar action against Nokia and HTC was found not to be valid in a recommendation to an American court by the US International Trade Commission.
Maybe Apple found a new way to promote their products after seeing various treats in the market.
I work for Samsung , maybe I could be biased :)
